Makes me wonder who their[Vulture] sources were that "confirmed" it. Yeah, it probably is connected in atleast one way to "Cloverfield"....they'll be drinking Slusho in a scene I'm sure.

Oh I'm all over this one!! Official website just launched[Notice the bottom righthand corner there will be a FaceBook, Twitter, etc..and you can register for updates?! They're definitely taking a slighlty different approach marketing this one]!!!!:

http://www.super8-movie.com/

Also, just because J.J. says that this isn't Cloverfield related I'm not totally convinced until I see more so I think we should keep the discussion in this thread until we know for a fact otherwise....perhaps we could just slightly retitle it to "Cloverfield:2/Super 8 News" or something??

I'd just as soon take Cloverfield out of the thread title completely until we have some sort of proof that this is related in any way. If J.J. is denying it, then I'd have to side with him. He's been vague before, but I can't recall him ever deliberately lying to the press.

Wow...I want to hate this project...specially if it involves any more hand held cam footage but that teaser kicked ass

by the way that youtube video they embedded in the original article with the alien peeking in the window has nothing to do with this movie either... I saw it a couple of years ago. Heck the title is "the real Jeff Peckman alien video" and if you google that you'll see it showed up a couple of years ago. Jeff Peckman is a real life "UFO disclosure activist" aka nutjob and that video was "evidence" of alien life he tried to make a big deal about.

I like the part that says "Area skeptics were able to reproduce the movements in the original video by using a rented alien costume and some home video editing software. The work took them about five hours and cost $90."

It's not the size of the dog in the fight that matters. It's the size of the fight in the dog!!

I saw Iron-Man 2 today, and Super 8 was one of the trailers shown.

And the idea occured to me that Super 8, given the apparent big alien creature angle, may be something of a companion movie to Cloverfield. And perhaps Abrams has the goal of creating a true sequel to both movies that pits the creatures against each other.

Probably just a random idea -- but the viral marketing parallel and a possible parallel involving portable "home" cameras seems like something to go on. That and Abrams regular refrenced the daikaiju genre as part of his inspiration for Cloverfield. While I think in Cloverfield Abrams made more of an American style giant monster movie rather than a daikaiju film, a giant monster vs. giant monster film would bring him into kaiju movie territory.

Even though the Super 8 creature is apparently far smaller than the Cloverfield creature, a sequel could account for that seeing as Cloverfield takes place in the "present". If Super 8 really does take place in the late 70s/early 80s then it could be possible for the Super 8 creature to survive and go to ground for the last 30 years and something about it's physiology causes to to grow to the Cloverfield creature's size. Either like the creature in 20 Million Miles to Earth or through metamorphosis.

And if for whatever reasons Super 8 doesn't do well, Abrams can always shelve a potential monster vs. monster movie and audiences would be none the wiser.

That's the kind of idea I had. Cloverfield being in the same time line, being about 30 years after Super 8. Abrams setting up a Monster vs Monster movie based after Cloverfield would be brilliant.

Who knows, maybe operation Hammerdown woke up the Super 8 alien monster who happened to be sleeping under New York City while the Cloverfield Monster attacked.
