Kinberg is selling himself and the movie short there. I think X-Men: Apocalypse works really well precisely because it hits all the right emotional beats with the characters. I know the critical consensus dictates that the most memorable aspects of the movie are the scenes of large-scale urban destruction but not only is that not something new or exclusive to Apocalypse, those scenes only amount to a grand total of a few minutes of screen time throughout the film, and most of them are in the trailers anyway.

X-Men: Apocalypse is as dialogue-packed and character-driven as any of the Bryan Singer-directed/produced entries. The writing is as sharp as ever and the actors even deliver some brilliant improvisation. Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, Jean, Cyclops, and Storm all undergo significant character arcs over the course of the film. Moira, Beast, Quicksilver, Nightcrawler, Stryker and Wolverine also all get moments of notable character development with their varying roles, and even though the story isn't necessarily about them, their perspectives add depth to the story's global scale. Apocalypse is a terrific villain; Oscar Isaac really knocked it out of the park with his performance. I think this may go down as the most underrated superhero film ever.

Nah, he is right. THe movie was just a bland, generic, action film about conquering the world without any sort of charcter development. Apocalypse was an utter joke as half of his goons were taller than he was. Other than Magneto, his Four Horsemen were a total waste and could have been anyone, especially that thing using the name of Archangel. Oh, and do both Jubilee and Angel have eternal youth abilities since they seem to be the same age in the 80s they are in the 2000s? The sad part is, the best scene in the movie is just a rehash of one of the scenes from DoFP. Oh, and Quicksilver is still living in his mom's basement at 30? Jumping the timeline 20 years was way too much. Ten years was believable and they should have stuck with a year or two later. Alex should be in the 40s in Apocalypse and doesn't look a day over 25.

Ugh, I hate Apocalypse. It's only one Magneto away from being as bad as X3. As Jean says in the movie, "Everyone knows the third one sucks." Yes it does Jean, yes it does.

Amazingly enough, I gotta go with Kain 100% on this one. It had a few brief moments of greatness sprinkled throughout, but for the most part was a disappointingly unenthusiastic, by-the-numbers actioner; a definite step back from DoFP, which in itself was desperately snapping at the heals of First Class.

Ivan Ooze, err... I mean Apocalypse, was a limp joke of a villain, (on par with Ultron and the elf guy from Thor2). Jennifer whatsherface staying out of blue makeup for 90% came across like a spoiled little moviestar brat tactic. ("I'll do this last film but I ain't putting on that stupid makeup anymore. My fans want to see the real me!" "Just a few quick scenes, Jennifer? Pretty please?" "Oh, okay. I suppose! But only a couple!!") *Ugh* Just getting sick of her. Giving Magneto a family and then snuffing them out a couple of scenes later just to get him 'back in the game' was the cheapest of cheap plot manipulation tricks. ("Gee, how do we believably make Eric a 'bad guy' again?" "Ummm, we could give him a family ...and then kill them?" "Perfect!") *SIGH* Storm, Psylocke & Archangel were essentially wasted in thankless throwaway roles that kept them too far in the background. Nightcrawler was one of the few bright spots.

Like I said, there was some good stuff, but it was very UNDERwhelming movie for me.
