Starting in October, some of Hong Kong cinema’s most beloved, iconic, and essential classics are coming to the Criterion Channel. That month, a major selection of long-unavailable movies from the Golden Princess library will make their streaming debuts—including John Woo’s game-changing action spectaculars THE KILLER, A BETTER TOMORROW, and HARD BOILED—where they’ll be joining the streaming service's extensive Hong Kong library. “We’re thrilled to be able to gather such a wide offering of inventive genre classics,” says Aliza Ma, the Criterion Channel’s head of programming, “making the Criterion Channel your streaming home for Hong Kong cinema.”
October’s Criterion Channel lineup will include a Hong Kong Action Classics program, including films by legendary directors like Woo, Tsui Hark, and Ringo Lam and featuring global stars like Chow Yun-fat and Tony Leung Chiu-wai. And in time for Halloween, a collection of Hong Kong Ghost Stories will gather several cult-horror classics, including the influential A CHINESE GHOST STORY trilogy. Stay tuned for more Hong Kong films in the months to come!
