A SciFi JAPAN EXCLUSIVE
Toei Co., Ltd. has provided SciFi Japan with press notes, promotional artwork, and a photo gallery for the first movie from their new “THE KAMEN RIDER CHRONICLE” brand. While the film's Japanese title (アギト-超能力戦争-, Agito — Chō Nōryoku Sensō —) translates to "Agito — The Psychic War —", Toei will be marketing it internationally simply as AGITO.
2026 marks the 55th anniversary of Kamen Rider. In Januaury Toei announced that milestone would be commemorated with a new Kamen Rider movie based on one of the Heisei era shows. 11 candidate titles were unveiled, and social media buzzed with fans’ predictions and anticipation regarding which would be chosen. Late that month, the commemorative production was revealed to be a new installment of KAMEN RIDER AGITO —a landmark series that boasts the highest average viewership rating of any Heisei Kamen Rider show and is celebrating its own 25th anniversary this year. The filmmakers decided to remove the words “Kamen Rider” from the title of this new film to signify that AGITO will be a groundbreaking entry that breaks free from existing conventions of the franchise — a psychic action blockbuster designed to entertain adults.
AGITO will open nationwide in Japan on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the "Showa Day" national holiday that kicks off Golden Week. Toei is also planning an overseas release, with details TBA.

About THE KAMEN RIDER CHRONICLE
For each anniversary of Kamen Rider’s debut, works befitting the occasion have been produced. For the 45th anniversary, the feature film KAMEN RIDER NO. 1 (仮面ライダー1号, Kamen Raidā 1-Gō, 2016) was released, directed by Osamu Kaneda and featuring Hiroshi Fujioka—who played the original Kamen Rider, Takeshi Hongo/Kamen Rider No. 1—as the protagonist. For the 50th anniversary, three projects were announced: the movie SHIN KAMEN RIDER (シン・仮面ライダー, Shin Kamen Raidā, 2023), directed and written by Hideaki Anno; the special Prime Video series KAMEN RIDER BLACK SUN (仮面ライダーBLACK SUN, Kamen Raidā BLACK SUN, 2022), which garnered attention for its dual lead cast of Hidetoshi Nishijima and Tomoya Nakamura; and FUUTO PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR (風都探偵, Kazeto Tantei, 2022), an animated sequel to the television series KAMEN RIDER W (仮面ライダーW, Kamen Raidā W, 2009-10).
The 55th anniversary sees the launch of “THE KAMEN RIDER CHRONICLE,” a new brand of films based on past Kamen Rider series and aimed at an adult audience. With "CHRONICLE," Toei is targeting older fans who watched the shows during their original broadcast runs, while looking to creates stories that can also be enjoyed by those experiencing the franchise for the first time.

AGITO MOVIE INTRODUCTION
Kamen Rider Agito weaves a new tale.
In a world where people are beginning to awaken to “supernatural powers” one after another, chaos ensues as many use these abilities for evil deeds.
Amidst this turmoil, a single police officer, Makoto Hikawa, steps forward. Though he possesses no special powers, he is an honest, clumsy man who believes in justice more strongly than anyone else.
Look forward to the human drama and superpower action as human evolution and conviction collide.
AGITO brings back much of the original cast from KAMEN RIDER AGITO. The lead role is played by Jun Kaname, known for the “Kingdom” film series and his portrayal of Akechi Mitsuhide in the 2026 NHK Taiga drama BROTHERS IN ARMS (豊臣兄弟!, Toyotomi Kyōdai!). He is joined by Toshiki Kashu, who played Shoichi Tsugami/Kamen Rider Agito, alongside Toko Fujita, Jun Yamasaki, Akiyoshi Shibata, Takeshi Masu, Rina Akiyama, Tokimasa Tanabe, and Takanori Kikuchi. Newcomers to the cast include actress and model Yūchami (true name Yuna Kogawa) and actor/singer Satoshi Kanada from the comedy duo Hannya.
The teaser poster (posted above, left side) features the caption “Human Awakening” alongside a striking image of the partially destroyed helmet of Kamen Rider Gills from the TV series. What does this mean?

MOVIE STORY
“The moment a person gains power, they become a monster.”
Half-frozen, half-burned... two contradictory causes of death were etched into a single corpse.
It was an “impossible crime”—unprecedented in history—born from the rampage of those who wielded psychic powers.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Squad Against Unidentified Lifeforms—commonly known as “G-Unit”—is dispatched. Young squad member Ruriko Aoi (Yuuchami) challenged the psychics in here state-of-the-art, specially reinforced armored suit, “G6,” but was forced to retreat in the face of their overwhelming power.
G-Unit Director Sumiko Ozawa (Toko Fujita) was certain. To resolve this crisis, she needs the power of Makoto Hikawa (Jun Kaname). However, he is currently being held in prison.
In Hikawa’s absence, Ozawa turns to Shoichi Tsugami (Toshiki Kashu), a man who once fought the Unknown using a mysterious power called “Agito.” But Shoichi has lost that power...

CAST/STAFF COMMENTS
• Jun Kaname (as Makoto Hikawa)
In this milestone year marking the 55th anniversary of Kamen Rider and the 25th anniversary of KAMEN RIDER AGITO, I am truly delighted and honored to return to this world as the lead actor for the first time in 25 years. For me, KAMEN RIDER AGITO represents the very starting point of my career as an actor—the beginning of a journey defined by challenge and growth. Approaching this project once again, I did so with the same passion I felt back then, combined with sentiments I am only able to express now, having gained the perspective that comes with the passage of time.
I would like to dedicate this film to everyone who has supported me over the years, and to all those who made this miraculous opportunity possible.
· Toshiki Kashu (as Shoichi Tsugami)
As a performer, I am deeply moved that Agito has been entrusted with the significant honor of bearing the title "Kamen Rider 55th Anniversary." I feel truly privileged to have been able to return once again as Agito.
I was certainly surprised when I first heard that a new project had been greenlit; however, the moment I read Mr. Inoue’s script and reunited with my former colleagues on set, Shoichi Tsugami instantly reawakened within me.
Let’s meet at the theater on April 29th for AGITO.

What exactly is the “transformation” in Kamen Rider? Does the body actually change, or is it simply a matter of donning a mask and a suit?
After 55 years, there is still no definitive answer. But it is precisely this ambiguity that defines a Rider. After all, a Kamen Rider is someone who crosses the blurred boundary between human and monster.
Makoto Hikawa, played by Jun Kaname, does not transform. He has no special abilities. He simply dons a power suit over his unenhanced body. Yet, with sheer willpower, he crosses that boundary.
55th Anniversary.
We want to deliver a story of “transformation” that only a Rider can portray.
