Toho Co., Ltd. has provided SciFi Japan with information and high-res images from DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NEW NOBITA AND THE CASTLE OF THE UNDERSEA DEVIL (映画ドラえもん 新・のび太の海底鬼岩城, Eiga Doraemon Shin Nobita no Kaiteiki Ganjō), the 45th film in the long running Doraemon franchise. It will open in Japanese theaters on February 27, 2026.
The new movie is a remake of the 4th Doraemon feature film, DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NOBITA AND THE CASTLE OF THE UNDERSEA DEVIL (ドラえもん のび太の海底鬼岩城, Doraemon Nobita no Kaiteiki Ganjō) , which was released in 1983. Described as "a film that took the nation by storm and moved audiences to tears", that classic has been completely reimagined and reborn for a new generation more than 40 years later.
DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NEW NOBITA AND THE CASTLE OF THE UNDERSEA DEVIL is directed by Tetsuo Yajima. This is Yajima's first time directing a Doraemon feature film, though he has worked as a storyboard artist and Unit Director on previous movies as well as the DORAEMON television series. Writer Isao Murayama is also a veteran of the TV Series and wrote the screenplay for the birthday special DORAEMON: THE SECRET TREASURE OF THE SKY CASTLE! ~LEGEND OF THE TRUE HERO~ (ドラえもん 天空城の秘宝!~Legend of the True Hero~, Doraemon Tenkū-jō no Hihō!~ Legend of the True Hero~), which aired on September 6, 2025, the same day that NEW NOBITA AND THE CASTLE OF THE UNDERSEA DEVIL was announced as the title for the next movie.
DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NEW NOBITA AND THE CASTLE OF THE UNDERSEA DEVIL will be the first film in the series to be screened in the MX4D and 4DX formats.

STORY
It lies at the very bottom of the ocean—the place closest to the Earth's core.
An unknown world shrouded in mystery! A breathtaking, thrilling, and astonishing undersea adventure awaits!
During summer vacation, Nobita and his friends couldn’t agree on where to go camping, so at Doraemon’s suggestion, they decided to camp right in the middle of the ocean! Using the Secret Gadgets "Underwater Buggy" and "Adaptation Light," the five friends enjoy their undersea camping trip while encountering a fascinating array of marine life.
Their adventure takes a sudden turn when they discover a sunken ship and encounter a mysterious young man named El. To their astonishment, he turns out to be an "Undersea Dweller" living in the vast *Mu Federation* that stretches across the ocean floor! However, the Undersea Dwellers harbor a deep distrust of "Land Dwellers" and cannot bring themselves to trust Nobita and his friends. Amidst this tension, a dire message arrives: "The Great Undersea Castle... has become active!!"
What exactly is this "Great Undersea Castle" that strikes such fear into the hearts of the Undersea Dwellers...?
With unwavering faith in one another, the friends set out on a grand adventure where the very fate of the Earth hangs in the balance!
