Screen Rant:
Godzilla 2's Viral Website Brings Older Movie Events Into Canon
MANSOOR MITHAIWALA wrote:After debuting the first Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, the Monarch Sciences website (and Twitter account) went silent. Finally, months later, they're back with new teases on Twitter, some of which were revealed during a Godzilla panel at LA Comic Con in October. What's interesting about these new teases, however, is that they could be perceived as subtle references to past Toho movies, and are thus potentially evidence of WB bringing old Godzilla events into canon.

For instance, Monarch's tweet Godzilla heading to the last known location of a Japanese land mass that sunk into the ocean is referencing the movie Submersion of Japan (aka Tidal Waves in the United States), a disaster movie about a series of geological phenomena leading to Japan sinking. Then, Monarch's tweet about Godzilla disappearing and then reappearing in the Sea of Okhotsk is certainly a nod to the 1991 movie, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, which makes reference to a time Godzilla defeated King Ghidorah in the Sea of Okhotsk, where King Ghidorah had remained for 200 years.

Considering that WB is only now getting back on track with using Monarch Sciences to promote Godzilla: King of the Monsters, there may be plenty of more opportunities for them to reference and tease old Toho movies, while also possibly bringing them closer to the events of the MonsterVerse. Of course, they don't need to explain how everything could potentially exist in the same universe, but it's not like having a multiverse is too far-fetched.

What a clickbait headline.

I'm really hope for a spectacular aerial battle between Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah. Godzilla is a little useless in the sky... unless we count Hedorah version.

Games Radar 12/11/18:
"We've definitely increased the intensity" - take an exclusive look at Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Matt Maytum wrote:While the 2014 film took its time building up to the supersized scraps, expect more carnage all round in the sequel, as director Dougherty promises a change of pace. “We’ve definitely increased the intensity,” Dougherty tells Total Film. “We have a lot of monsters.”

And with four Titans to cram into this apocalyptic story, expect a faster pace this time around. “I think Gareth [Edwards] had a lot of fun playing cat-and-mouse and I love the slow-build he created,” continues Dougherty. “But we definitely take the gloves off for this film. No holding back.”

Since news has been slow, I have been checking social media, and some are believing that the monster emerging from the mountain is none other than Anglius (or Anguirus, if that is your preference).

I should have done a poll and see what others thought about that mountain creature. Is it Angilus, Baragon, Gamera, the Rhedosaurus, or a new monster? My heart wants it to be the Rhedosaurus, BUT I ultimately believe it will be a new monster created by Legendary. Toho asks a great deal for one of their properties, so I am very doubtful that is Angilus or Baragon.

No way Gamera. Also, Luke will not be Rey's father, and I will not win the lottery! (if however, I am wrong on one of those three, I will come back and literally eat crow!).

I would mess my britches if Angilas popped out of that mound of earth! More likely that it is an entirely new creation or something WB was able to use freely from their own library, such as a Black Scorpion or the Rhedosaurus, (although it makes no sense for a sea beast to emerge from the ground, but whatever).

True that! Of course, if we are talking logistics, then the obvious monster emerging from that mountain should be Baragon. I am doubtful that Toho licensed any other of their creations and that Legendary was willing to pay high for what one might call "the second tier" of monsters in the Toho realm. But if somehow, someway, Angilas or Baragon pops up, then Legendary and Toho, you both would pleasantly surprise me!

So, based on the toys
Spoiler Below:
burning Godzilla is confirmed. Underground monster likely to be Destoroyah. Any chance the big G bites it here and gives rise to a smaller Junior? That way Kong doesn’t have to grow as much for a fair fight?

No chance Godzilla 'bites it' in this film. The 'burning' phase is just a power up.

So basically what the red spiral ray mode in the Heisei series was this is, as opposed to his burning mode being the countdown to the end /rebirth?
Sounds like Kong is even more impossibly screwed in a 1 on 1.
Destoroyah got torn up pretty badly when Burning Goji got going.
Oh and I just learned there was a blue spiral day variant!? Guess the vhs I’d had for 25 years was too grainy for me to spot it. https://wikizilla.org/wiki/Godzilla/Hei ... l_Heat_Ray

Pretty sure any power-ups any kaiju get are going to be one-offs. Kong's starting on a level playing field.

In looking at social media, I am not really getting this fascination with Destroyah.
Heck, I always though that "Godzilla vs. Destroyah" would have been a better movie without Destroyah! Should these next two movies become box-office bonanzas, I would think that Legendary would love the chance to continue, and get a more popular monster from Toho's pantheon. But then again, Destroyah is a design that can be greatly improved upon (I think).

I love the Showa era, and the classic kaiju. Still I know it's hard to believe, but we are far more removed from the Heisei era than we realize. None of it's truly unique Kaiju (Biollante, Battra, and Destoroyah) have reappeared on film. I'd love to see any one of these appear again.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Spoiler Below:
I assume most of these people haven’t seen the film or saw it as very young kids. On paper he sounds quite impressive, imposing and badass. In the film he basically picked on jr, was a pest to Goji, and got wrecked repeatedly. Out of all the Heisei adversaries save Rodan, imago Battra, MG (not SMG which somehow is just MG with a backpack for better lateral flying/strafing and a couple extra lasers), and maybe MKG I think Godzilla has the easiest time with Destoroyah. Not to say he was the weakest opponent, Gojis meltdown just made him extremely dangerous to be around. But every other kaiju really had him on the ropes or weeks out a draw. Things get a little too hot for D to handle after he pissed off the big G, and he flees. Plus the alien rip off seemed unneeded. Maybe a sequel could make him as threatening as he looks. He has a Gigan like personality in his debut and meltdown Godzilla seemed a far more fearsome opponent despite a size difference.

Spoiler Below:
I'd much rather see a return of Biollante before Destroyah, it would be alot more interesting. Destroyah was only interesting because Godzilla was literally fighting the very thing that killed him in 54. It was an attempt to tie the whole series together and kill it off. I don't think it carries the same weight in this series at all.
