I actually bought just the Iscandar part of it on VHS back in the day.
They had maybe 1-3 episodes of the show on each VHS, so Iscandar was like 19 VHS tapes (before they consolidated down to 5).
So I am kinda interested in the new version.
Yes both Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets were my intro's to Anime in late 70's early 80's. I too bought the original Iscandar Series when it was on VHS (2 episodes per tape, so was 13 VHS for one series).... from Kidmark ent in the late 80's. I was able to rent the rest from a local comic shop (Comet Empire and the 3rd season which I never saw on TV (Bolar Wars), and make copies

I held off on the DVD's because I heard they weren't of great quality. Unfortunately Voyager Ent. seems to have the license on them in perpetuity, even though the DVD's are long OOP. Fortunately Manga Ent had them all streaming for free on Youtube a while back, so I just have those digital copies I can watch when I'm in the mood. I'm glad Funimation was able to license the new series for release. I'm just hoping someday they'll produce a re-release of the original at a more economical price.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.
