There are multiple threads for his many projects but I didn't see one dedicated to the main himself and his past work so I decided to throw this together for anyone interested.

Wait, could you select multiple films on that poll? Oh, well: I just instinctively clicked on my favorite of his films: The Devil's Backone. I feel it encapsulates all of GDT's themes and obsessions in one perfect, neat little package of a film.

I love just about every film he's directed, save Mimic (which I merely 'like'). Even a seemingly lesser thing like Blade II is endlessly rewatchable and full of fun stuff. He's really turned himself into something like a franchise, or maybe it was us as fans who did that, or maybe it's a little bit of both.

Fantastic new interview with GDT. He talks about Trollhunters, his philosophy producing PacRim2, stuff that may be coming in the future (he talks about his rep as someone who is attached to a lot of projects that don't happen) and various other things. It's just a real great interview.



... and, yeah: I need to get off my butt and watch Trollhunters.

^He's been in the most productive period of his career for the last several years: after the wilderness years were he left the oft delayed Hobbit and spent a year on Mountains of Madness, which imploded, he's made a film every two years (ParRim, Crimson Peak, Shape of Water) and at the same time worked on two TV shows. In addition he created a museum exhibition about his house! He'll still be working on other stuff, and he tweeted that he'll be back in the director's chair next fall, but a year off from director is entirely understandable for me.

Hell, let Condon make his Bride of Frankenstein movie, too. Kick the shared universe idea and let filmmakers tell stories.

Anyway, apparently GDT is making some kind of documentary or interview thing about Michael Mann and (I think?) George Miller during his sabbatical. His idea of taking a break is doing other, different work.

The action is fun, the monsters are scary and awesome. GDT gets to create his body-horror vermin-people vampires and at the same time go back to the classic Nosferatu archetype. At one point it stops being a Wesley Snipes action movie and becomes and purely GDT gothic melodrama about a vampire royal family and once Wesley does return to the movie he does so rising out of a blood fountain, with Kris Kristofferson throwing him a pair of sunglasses from like a hundred feet away (which Blade catches perfectly). Ron Perlman is cut in half long-ways. Norman Reedus explodes. It's a good movie.

Extra points must be given for the special features where GDT talks about all the cool stuff he got to put in the movie which at the same time constantly making fun of David Goyer's script and just Goyer in general. The fact that is wasn't GDT's baby actually got him to act at a more relaxed level and that shows in the effervescent 'just do it' mentality of the movie.
