Thing is the MonsterArts figures are showing off how possible and articulated they are. NECA's Heisei figure just looks stiff. I'm sure they'll release more photos showing off its articulation, but as it stands the three images we have of it aren't that impressive.

The whole argument about articulation is funny to me because back when the MA were announced there were people using that as a strike against the figures. That people would make and want to buy toys that were posed in ways they couldn't be in the films.

I also think this could all have been avoided, mostly, if they had just put out the 84 figure.

I think it's safe to say if NECA had shown off a Godzilla 84 we would not be here having this conversation, and more like

"this is pretty good for 22 bucks. I mean at least we're getting a Godzilla 84. NOBODY does those."

If I were NECA...I really would just try to fill holes in the MA lineup and beat them to the punch with things.
I mean...that makes sense to me...ESPECIALLY since Joe Schmoe isn't really going to scrutinize the difference between the 84-Goji and the Moge-Goji suits.

As many other people mentioned here, the difference is the price point.

Not everyone wants to pay $80-$100 for a Godzilla toy, no matter how many points of articulation that it has. Sure, collectors do pay that. But Neca is not targeting the same niche market that SH Monster Arts figures appeal to. There will be some overlapping of markets, but the niche Neca are going to fill is *exactly* the niche that SHMA cannot fill: the market of affordably priced Godzilla toys that anyone who just saw the film can pick up.

Bandai has already started exploiting that market here in the US, so they will be NECA's main competition, not SH Monster Arts. Directly comparing Neca with SHMA is insane, of course Neca's figures won't be as highly detailed/articulated/etc. But, they also won't cost more than? $25 or whatever the MSRP is pegged at right now.

Now, we might get some of their super-detailed 18-inch figures for Godzilla, like they did with Pacific Rim. Those would be pretty cool too, and probably stand up well to SHMA in direct comparison. I hope we do see some -- for me, all Godzilla toys are welcome The more the merrier!

ITT; I Have No Idea How R&D Works And Am Completely Oblivious As To How Expensive Collectors Lines Are In General.

I think the biggest question I got regarding NECA is their choice of figures for the Godzilla line. As mentioned before, there's a bunch of90s Heisei Godzillas. Why another? Why not fill in a gap Bandai hasn't filled in yet? And why why why why not show off Godzilla 84?

Is there any reason why Godzilla 84 figures are uncommon in comparison to other designs?

EDIT: I just saw Baltan's comment on vinyl figures and kids. Yeah, after looking at Godzilla's release date in Japan I can you that the current situation is not going to change. The new Pokemon XY movie is being released a week before it, which just goes back to what all the Toho execs were saying the last 12 years; Godzilla's greatest enemy is Pokemon. Considering the overall disinterest in kaiju related things in Japan (Pacific Rim bombed there), plus a big family movie being released the week before, I don't think Godzilla is going to do well at all in Japan.

Sure, the neca godzilla doesnt look amazing compared to the MAs one, but for the asking price? That's pretty damn impressive.

MAs seem to get more and more expensive with every release. I'd love to add kiryu and the new gigan to my collection, but they're like $90 each on amazon! Christ, man. Even the G2000 figure is over $100 on amazon, and it has NO accessories to speak of. I'm sorry, but that is a flatout ripoff.

If neca can get the ball rolling and get a few more figures out before long, I have no doubt they'll secure the market for these kinds of toys, at least in the states. Why pay $60-90 for a godzilla figure when you could get something almost as good for, at the most, a third of the price?

Honestly I just wanna see pics of the 24in G14....

I know it will basically look the same as the smaller 12in toy, but from what I understand they improved the larger Knifehead figure compared to the initial release.

I know we all saw the Godzilla 94 proto on that white background before, and some said that it looked "too green". I saw this video on youtube and I wonder did anyone see it here before? It shows the NECA Godzilla 94 on a shelf under different lighting. It is not too close up, but you have to appreciate a different look of it.
