Shinichi Wakasa told me that FX director Kenji Suzuki wanted minimal mechanical features for Godzilla. Suzuki's idea was that Godzilla's performance would be conveyed through the movements and posture of suit actor Tsutomu Kitagawa rather than via a mechanical face... a concept borrowed from Noh theater.
