Hopefully this means a legit DVD/BRD release isn't too far behind. I already have the movie, but would love to own a licensed copy

That would be really nice, and I hope it does end up happening.

This. Awesome if it does happen. Still awesome that this is getting a theatrical release domestically, although I doubt it'll be playing anywhere near me. :(

^ so far it looks like the "domestic release" is super limited. 4 theaters or so, and not single one in a major city like New York or Washington DC...or the East coast for that matter...

While this is good news for the movie, I'm waiting for the release of the new updated series, Yamato 2199, here in the US. I've been a Yamato fan for 35 years, and anything Yamato coming over here to the US is very good news.

If handled properly, I think that it could be a big hit.

I'm thinking about getting the Japanese blurays of the series since their discs will play on US bluray players. Plus, they're English subtitled.

No word (that I know of) on a US release yet, but Voyager Entertainment USA is marketing the series for America as STAR BLAZERS 2199.

Yup. It's noted on starblazers.com. I just wonder if they're planning on a DVD/BR release for the series, or maybe to TV.

I e-mailed Voyager directly to ask them about "Star Blazers 2199", all they said was - "keep watching" the site. Since the series just finished in Japan, I'm hoping we'll know something within the next year. Yamato 2199 is absolutely A-MA-ZING!! (yes I've already seen it ;) ) I would love to see it get the Star Blazers treatment, but a straight translation on R1 DVD would be great as well

I've seen a few clips and even one or two episodes on YouTube. It is nice and it looks like it stays pretty true to the original series. My next hope is going to be I hope they also remake the second series, The Comet Empire.

SciFi Japan has updated with Eleven Arts’ North American presskit for SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO. Eleven Arts has also answered some questions about plans for the American release.

The events up to the Battle of Pluto follow the original very closely (about he first 8 or so episodes) from there however it deviates quite a bit, but not in a bad way, the major plot points (Planat Balan, General Dommel etc...) are still there, but there are some nice additions that give a sense of drama to a story we pretty much know the outcome of. I'd love to see this get picked up for a 2nd series of episodes to follow the White Comet arch, the series was set up from the beginning so it would be possible, only time will tell if they actually do it however.

San Francisco, LA and Honolulu aren't major cities? Or do you mean major cities on the East coast...
Anyway, it's playing 4 blocks from me. I'll be strolling on over to see it. ;P

Well, I have an English subtitled copy of it on my laptop now. I'll watch it here in the next few days. Won't be the same as watching it in a theater, but oh well.

Well, I just finished watching this today. I thought it was pretty good. But I wasn't too fond of how it ended. Reminded me of how Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato ended. Looks like they basically incorporated elements of the first two movies into one. Still very well done. I would've loved to have seen a sequel made. Seeing the Andromeda and the other battleships along with Yamato in a second movie would've been pretty cool.

Aside from the epilogue with the terrible, movie-ruining Steve Tyler song, the ending was actually my favorite part for the sheer size of its balls. Caught me totally off-guard. Otherwise, I was sort of so-so on this movie. By and large it was alright but I feel like the first half hour was a bit vague and underwritten. I never really felt the gravity of the situation nor did I feel like the plan was adequately explained (and other details).

Interesting, I thought so as well. The Steve Tyler song was not that bad though.

The film is also being released in Canada on November 11 at 7pm at various Cineplex locations. There is information on the Eleven Arts website. I hear from friends in the US that the theatrical version is MUCH higher quality than watching the DVD, so I suggest seeing it in theaters!
