Favorite Enimey of Gamera

Spinning flame-jetted turtles, space birds being chopped up like bologna, kids in shorts screaming for help...the original Gamera series was a strange mix of wacky fun!! The 90's Gamera films set a standard that other kaiju films are measured against! Discuss Gamera films here!!

Well, if you mean "enemy", then I'd say Gyaos. I mean, Iris was cool and all, but it's design made the fight kinda crappy because it didn't have to do anything. It just stabbed Gamera and stood their while its tentacles went to town. Gyaos is much less armed, so the battle was more interesting and more of a struggle.

Gyaos was the best enemy in terms of design and the fight he put up. He was the only enemy I ever felt sorry for! Plus, he's, you know, classic.

Iris was very nearly as good, though.

I really liked Legion. The design was cool and just the concept of it was great. It was huge and sure put up a good fight against Gamera. So Legion gets my vote. :D

Legion is simply one of my favourite Kaiju ever! But the other two are really cool too!
I´d like to get the Dark Horse comic to see how the classic Showa Kaiju were presented. I always thought that the adversaries were very inventive in the Gamera movies, they were made on a much lower budget than Godzilla but they had something unique about them. I really hope they all come out on R1 DVD someday.

Oh, and another good thing about Gyaos is that he's somewhat relatable. I mean, Iris and Legion seem totally alien in that they don't have "faces" and seem more inanimate than animate. But Gyaos was just a big...bird...thingy. So he had eyes, a mouth, legs, etc. and was much more relatable.

They were all awesome, and so unique from each other. I'm surprised anyone could feel sorry for Gyaos! They are just the nastiest beasts around! They feed on people, are messy easters(when I watched it on DVD at my friend's house last month, I was somewhat shocked to be reminded that you can see body parts falling out her mouth as she feeds on the train passengers!), and will eat EACHOTHER in a pinch! I almost felt sorry for the maimed Shibuya Station Gyaos, but maybe I was more so upset that Gamera was killing thousands to finish of a critter with a dislocated jaw and eyeball hanging out of his/her skull.

I felt more sorry for Legion..after all they were not evil at all, just pests in the worst way. And totally alien.

But Iris was the scariest of them. It poses the most personal threat... like China said Iris was like a sexual predator.... Well that was who I voted for in the poll. Great villains all though.

I still say Ms. Nagamine takes the cake. As StompTokyo.com ever so eloquently put it, she's "cute as a fistful of buttons."

I agree with you, Mechagodzilla, between Asagi's appearances in G2 Advent of Legion [And "Seventeen" by Winger begins going through my head...] and G3 Incomplete Struggle she definitely grew up to be way cute!

My copy of G2 AoL has a "behind the scenes" feature before the movie starts, along with a few quick clips of Ayako "Asagi" Fujitani and other members of the cast and crew appearing at some film related event. [Dang, why can't they come to the U.S. for sci fi cons?] It's the only thing on the tape that wasn't subtitled so I didn't understand much besides the word "Gamera" and Ayako saying "Asagi" once, but if I'd been there I would've definitely wanted to meet her anyway whether she actually can speak English or not! :D

And the main female lead in G2 AoL, Honami, was really cute herself. Her best moment of the movie has got to be during the scene where she's with the two guys up in her room [above her daddy's store] discussing the Legion creatures. When one of them comments that he could use a drink she gets this adorable look on her face and simply says "Okay", and directs them to where she kept her liquor hidden [from her parents, of course] in the bookshelf!

Oh, I'm sorry. Wasn't this topic a poll for our favorite Heisei Gamera villain? Put me down for Iris! No, Legion! No, wait!....

Btw, I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one creeped out by "the scene" with Ayana hazily telling Iris "I'm hot" and going for her top button. It just looked wrong on so many levels. Considering what Iris was doing with her next in the cave Sparkiegojira's "sexual predator" reference isn't such a stretch. Brrr...
