The Infiltrator - If you've seen enough movies about people going undercover and how it can mess with them when it comes time to pull the proverbial trigger because they feel like they've befriended their mark, and how it messes with their family life, there won't be a whole lot NEW here for you...but the cast is stellar and it's all pretty well-done. Certainly entertaining enough for a couple hours. 3.5/5.

31 - I hate when I wind up joining the chorus of people I used to argue with...I more or less enjoyed House of 1000 Corpses, I LOVE The Devil's Rejects, I think his Halloween remake is decent and his sequel is interesting and bold...but everything I think people were too harsh on in those movies, is on display here like he's not even TRYING to cover it up anymore. Just a bunch of hillbilly trash murdering things. Worse, his penchant for having the characters he thinks are supposed to be "cool" give these lengthy monologues that are supposed to be "deep" or "important" is at its most obtrusive. This movie is like a bad ripoff of a Rob Zombie movie...which makes it a bad ripoff of a ripoff (since even his best movies borrow heavily from other films). Lords of Salem, despite my HATING it, gave me some hope that Zombie was ready to move beyond the one movie he's made thus far and into at least different places. 31 is a harsh reminder that The Devil's Rejects may have been an accident, rather than the work of a gifted filmmaker firing on all cylinders. Zombie has a keen visual eye, but he needs someone else to write for him because he's horrible at it...and he needs SOMETHING to make it feel like he's EXCITED about making movies again, because this just felt like he was going through the motions.
1.5/5.

Star Wars Rogue One - Amazing, simply amazing. This movie is dark, really dark and depressing. It puts the WAR in Star Wars. If you thought Disney was going to turn this franchise into a child's playroom, this movie just shows that they are taking it seriously. I give it a 9/10.

Oh, and K2S0 was hands down the best character in the movie. I want to see him and Chopper have an episode together in Rebels.

Black Christmas Remake - The **** did I just sit through? 2/10

Orochi the Eight Headed Dragon - I want my $1.50 back/10.

The Legend of Tarzan - Another boring as hell movie from 2016. My god, this movie didn't even try to be good. It doesn't help that this movie does nothing to inform those who know next to nothing about Tarzan (other than it's a wannabe Jungle Book but with apes instead of wolves) outside of forced in flashbacks that would show up without any rhyme or reason for them existing other than, "Hey, Batman Begins and Man of Steel did it, so let's do it because it's cool." The pacing was all over the place with some scenes dragging on way too long while others moved way too quickly. Worst of all, the entire purpose for Tarzan even returning to the jungle is resolved in like 2 minutes. I have no idea what the filmmakers were even trying to do here, but they failed on every level. It may not be the worst movie of 2016, but it is certainly one of them. This steaming pile of ape "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" gets a 3/10. Actors need to really start actually reading their scripts before they pick a role because there is no reason the actors in this movie should be this terrible, especially Waltz and Jackson.

Tarzan is not one of my favorite films from 2016, like I posted a few pages back, the wife wanted to see it. However I appreciated that it did not retread the tired old origin story yet again. There's literally dozens of Tarzan films, if you want an origin story, they are not in short supply. I don't see it as trendy. I *kind* of see it as...there are so many films in existence, if you know anything about the story, you will see it, if you don't care you wont. If you want to be a new fan, you wont start with this one. My gripes as stated before came mostly from the overuse of CG.

Rogue One may not be as financially successful because it did little if anything to set up any explanation of anything that was going on. Disney knows, if you are not a Star Wars fan by now, you wont see this film, if you are, you will know whats going on. Unlike 30 years ago when the films were not readily available, I cant imagine Rogue One would by ANYONES first Star Wars film. Parents would have shown kids at least the original Trilogy if not all 7 films before walking into see this one.

If this Tarzan was anyone's first exposure to those stories, they did not do it right. Tarzan and The Jungle Book have almost nothing in common, one only predates the other by 18 years, and both have been around for over a century.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Still doesn't excuse a "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" movie from being "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!".

Disney's A Christmas Carol - 9/10

Warcraft - If you want to watch a movie that was one action scene followed by another with very little plot or character development, this is the movie for you. Warcrap was clearly made only for those who know the video games rather than wanting to get new comers interested in the Warcraft lore because this movie did nothing to welcome them Nothing made sense as if they had just strung together a bunch of cut scenes from the game but replaced the human characters with actual actors. There were plotlines that went no where (like some orc baby and the whole purpose for the king's sacrifice), people that just appeared without a proper introduction (some wizards in a flying city I guess), and characters that were clearly evil pretending to be good. All of this was just one big cliche. It's not the worst video game movie ever, but it does absolutely nothing to prove that video games can be adapted into movies. In fact, this makes the Resident Evil movies look like masterpieces because those at least wanted anyone to be able to enjoy them without having to know anything about the games. This does not and as such I give it a 4/10. It's also cute that the movie was sequel baiting as if people are going to waste their time on another installment when the filmmakers couldn't be bothered to actually write an ending to the "story" that was started here.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

It has some problems that you're probably gonna hear reiterated ad-nauseam, but it's mostly good and a much more competently done prequel than the actual prequels.

Krumpas - Wasn't really a fan of it last year when I saw it in theaters. It was a bit better this time around, but they seriously need to release a version that doesn't have the death scenes dumbed down because the horror in this was as tame as a 1930s horror film. It does have a lot of great designs though but I would have rathered had something more like Trick r Treat than this (which A Christmas Horror Story did) as far as the story went. I'm sticking with my 7/10 score.

Godzilla Raids Again.. with Steve Ryfle Commentary. -Its been a while. I never knew that the incorrect/reversed roars of the monsters was only a part of the English version. I guess I'll have to watch the Japanese version again.

The Handmaiden is the film in release now that I really want to see but which will probably take a while before being available for me. I should probably try to see some of Chan-wook's other films first (yeah, I know, a decade late to the party).

The 3 Worlds of Gulliver

First of all: Twilight Time Blu-Ray is gorgeous. Second: once you stop expecting it to be a 'Harryhausen film' and just think of it as a family fantasy film it's charming. Bernard Herrmann's score is terrific.

The Boy was just down right terrible. My third worse movie of the year. Green Room will probably end up being a dishonorable mention. The only horror movie worse than The Boy was The Darkness. I refuse to ever sit through another Blair Witch movie. Good god that thing is so stupid.

The Witch and The Conjuring 2 may make my top 10 list for best movies of the year.

Agreed though that 2016 was a great year for horror films. A lot of interesting things that relied more on suspense and tension rather than just gore or torture.

Guess it's been a while, so if I say something I already posted, feel free to remind me...

All via DVDs that I own:

Batman Begins: still pretty good
Latitude Zero: Fun (I went with Japanese this time, and it seemed a bit different than the English), and the nurse was very nice looking
Stargate: remember when this director was good...he was great
Godzilla 1984: Blu-Ray looks great, and man the story is a LOT better without the silly "snarky" US military guys & Raymond Burr just sitting and watching.
Spaceballs: still really really funny
Blazing Saddles: the "gas" scene still gets a chuckle, and the rest is still great.

Via Redbox:

Sausage Party: yeah, that was different.
Batman Return of the Caped Crusaders: Adam West & Burt Ward sound great, Julie Newmarr still sounds sexy, and the rest of the voices were so spot on, you almost think they somehow brought them back from the dead...
It was interesting seeing a different side of the campy Batman that we are used to.
Star Trek Beyond: Decent action, OK story (though seriously how many times do we need to wreck the Enterprise), and the alien lady was very nice looking.
Batman The Killing Joke: The start was different, though any excuse to see the animated Batgirl is OK in my book, the rest was similar enough to the comic, but could have easily been PG-13.

Besides those, I can't seem to remember what else I haven't posted.
Of course I did watch a bit of anime, which is covered in the topic on that area.

jellydonut25, if you like Hush and The Conjuring, you should check out Ouija: Origin of Evil. Another solid meat and potatoes horror film by Mike Flanagan.
