My concern about Toho insisting on such low budgets for Godzilla is mostly related to seeing how they ARE willing to go higher budget and get other companies to help finance OTHER films. Like why can Attack on Titan or Space Battleship Yamato get these huge budgets and look amazing, but Godzilla is still stuck at $10 million (which by American standards is about as much as your average indie movie)? My only guess is that they DON'T want to share any revenue with other companies on Godzilla, they want it to be 100% in-house at Toho. But because of that, they aren't able to spend as much on Godzilla as they are on their other properties, so the end product is something that simply isn't going to be able to compete, not only with Hollywood, but Toho's other blockbusters as well. I'm not sure WHY this is, but knowing Toho's business practices, I interpret it as an odd stubbornness to not want to share anything, even if it means a movie that could be better or perform better.
