These official MonsterArt photos make his mouth look slightly less redonculous. Might take the edge off a bit...

It's not like Godzilla had a muppet mouth before or looked goofy from certain angles right?

It reminds me of a snake unhinging it's mouth to swallow it's prey. I like it.

That mouth is extremely ridiculous. Or extremely horrifying, depending on what they do with it.

Setting aside for a moment the fact that the existence of a 118-meter tall creature goes against all the laws of biomechanics, that jaw/skull arrangement really goes against any logical biomechanical design. No obvious room for muscle connections or even jawbone hinging...just a big flapping upper jaw/skull assembly teetering on the lower jaw. Looks very weak. Hopefully, like with the other design quirks, the reasons behind this freakish feature will be evident in the film.

Sometimes toys/models like to put their own spin on things. Could we hope perhaps the extreme degree to which that mouth is open is not how it will actually be portrayed in the film?
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I kind of hope it does that. It's so weird, but I dig it.

I do notice something. Look at the first Godzilla vs Evangelion art that was put out. It's Shin in the foreground. The tail, the disfigured head, the jaw-if you look closely-is very similar. The head in the background is different! I truly believe that we will have, at the end, a Heisei/Shodai Godzilla hyrbid.

I am excited for one about this film. Any mention of another Kaiju or Jeagers in this film?

Okay, so I finally got to read through this thread and catch up. It really sounds like this movie is suffering from being rushed. I hate these tight deadlines they give these movies. I trust Jim, he's been a great resource in the past and for him to say the script is rather bland with uninteresting characters doesn't excite me one bit. Godzilla himself will not save this movie if the human characters and the plot are not fleshed out. I do feel like the last best Toho Godzilla film we received was Godzilla 1984. I loved the ones that came after it, but 1984 felt much more cohesive and concise. It had great characters, tone, decent plot elements, a nice Godzilla design, and a really fantastic score which only helped the tone of the film even more. From what I've seen of this, Godzilla is the only thing that interests me.

I want this film, but I want it done well. I want a Winter 2016 release. :/

Well, Higuichi sure seems to be enjoying himself at these events!

Jim Ballard seems to think that these events and advertisements and tie-ins haven't really permeated the Japanese cultural mainstream, and I don't doubt his opinion - but I really like all the stuff we've seen so far. It's a very fun campaign, and for all we know they'll saturate them with TV and web ads in the weeks before the film's release. It feels sooner, but we're still over a month away from the release.

I think the design will work. It looks awful from certain angles but most of the time I believe it looks fine. It is derivative from the standard Godzilla design and I get why people dislike it though. The tiny arms and disproportionate legs will take some getting use to. Maybe the movie will change some people's minds.
