^Seems to match up pretty closely with what we've seen of the Sakai model.

How many rows of dorsal plates does he have? Seven?

Really warmed up to the design.

Looks like a cross between G54 and the G54 Maquette.

So...this is could legitimately be a spoiler for some people, so click at your own peril...it concerns Godzilla's potential origin and maybe a little more than that

There's several pics floating around Facebook and Twitter at this point, but this one is pretty good -

Image

And this one shows Godzilla's fifth toe...we kinda saw that in one of the first posters. Foot Wars 2016? It doesn't bug me a bit, really.

Anyway, the design is slowly growing on me. It's ugly and not my favorite look, but if it fits the movie I can deal with it. Per August's blog, this maquette was actually what they used to get the CG rendering for Godzilla.

To be honest I like it more without all the glowing red. I hope Xplus makes a duplicate of this maquette.

Oh and that tail definitely has dead animal skeletons in it.

The more I see of this, the less excited I get. Color me surprised, honestly. I feel like, when this was announced, I was thinking "Cool. Toho can do whatever they want, we're getting TWO Godzilla series concurrently. That's a first in the history of the franchise, no reason to not be excited."

Then everything that's happened so far happened:
A director I'm not enamored with from my previous (albeit limited) exposure to his work was attached.
An assistant director whose recent film I really didn't like was also brought on.
The choice of tone is, in my opinion, a mine field, with really only one film of thirty to date actually nailing a SCARY Godzilla.
The production schedule is still rushed.
The Toho Godzilla-by-committee approach is being taken.
We're getting Toho CGI.
Studio mandated reshoots that are happening specifically because the dailies have been bad (reshoots happen on a LOT of movies, but typically they are there to punch up a certain scene or chosen tone. It's not a good sign if reshoots are being used to overhaul the movie)
The design is easily a bottom five for me and possibly even a bottom two.

So far, I like the music from the trailer, and that this had a longer PREproduction than any Godzilla film in a long time.
I want to be excited, but I'm not feeling it at all.
Gills.

Where did we learn of these reshoots? Anno seems to have a kind of austere, specifically posed shooting style (as seen in the trailer). I wonder if the supposed reshoots are to add a bit of naturalism or warmth to the human scenes.

Id say Norman England and Bib Eggleton are fairly reliable sources as they are close with people working on the film.

This is what happened with Final Wars. England and other people "in the know" warned everyone of a clusterf*ck production an a studio that was panicking knowing they had a bomb on their hands..., everyone doubted them and we got what is widely considered one of the worst films in the series (although I like it). Then People ate crow when tag saw the movie.

Although I still hope for a good movie, I could see that happening again based on what Norman and Bob have reported on the BTS level.

I think Bob or Norman should disguise themselves as a new poster and fill us in on the details.

I remember in 04 when someone pretending to have really bad English was leaking details on another forum about Final Wars.

Hmmmm... very interesting. Well, if anything I'm positive this movie will be interesting, whether an interesting success or failure or something in between is to be seen. We've still got 2 American Godzilla films in the pipe, after all.

It'd be funny if Gamera contained to beat Godzilla quality wise in their home country. Turtle's been on a roll since '95.

The only thing in my list that's hearsay is the reshoots, but as MFW said, it's hearsay from people in the know, so it's not a huge leap.

There's other hearsay that I didn't list that I also don't like. Something about Godzilla's tail absorbing life? Is this Cell from DBZ? Less than amicable set conditions is another rumor.
These things are HEARSAY though...still disconcerting given all the other things we know...

Also, NOT hearsay at all: the biggest Godzilla in history, kinda ridiculous. The one shot in the trailer is honestly kinda comical. He's SO huge, it doesn't seem like he can interact with anything.

Gah. *be excited. Be excited. Be excited*. Nope. It's not working.

As to lhb's recent post: it's honestly at least as sad as it is funny. Gamera started as an unapologetically cheap Godzilla knockoff. To think that Toho has gone so downhill while the cheapo version has climbed to outdo them is honestly kinda sad. It's like how Romero is now probably one of the worst at weaving an interesting zombie story, and people who are blatantly ripping off his themes and rules and such are outclassing him like crazy.
Gills.

Maybe that's why nobody "in the know" would answer my question about if production was going smoothly. :?

I'm sure tempers are pretty high considering :

* People essentially lost their jobs when they ditched practical for CG.
* Higuchi is probably concerned about his job considering AoT was a dud.
* Studios getting their hands on the project probably doesn't help.

I didn't sign up for a CG-fest either so that has taken my optimism and turned it into hoping for a miracle at this point.

A lot of the hearsay stuff has actually panned out as accurate. I remember people discussing "zombiezilla" on FB about a month before the leaks ever happened, and that turned out to be dead on. It was then reported that one prop failed it's special effects test, so a second was made...and that one also failed. The leaks were obviously pictures of said props, and then suddenly Toho starts touting a fully CG Godzilla film. All of that tells me the info coming out about this movie having issues and the Godzilla props being scrapped is accurate, because why would Toho commission two props to be made and then suddenly go full CG?

Higuchi's a brilliant special effects Director. I think we all know that. My concern with his work on this film is that the brief military confrontation we have with Godzilla could almost literally be taken from any scene where the military fight the Angels in Eva...right down to the round explosions covering Godzilla's lower body. I'm just hoping this isn't a live action Evangelion with a Godzilla slant. I guess it is only one trailer, and how much can that reveal?

While I'm still interested in the story and direction Anno wants to take, hearing that this was a "fully CG" Godzilla did dampen my excitement considerably. I was hoping that this movie would be a lifeline for traditional effects. It must have broken Shinji Haguchi's heart.
