My issue with it is the endless trading of concerned looks and talking heads with nothing being said. I understand the trailer shouldn't be all money shots and that as a teaser it wouldn't go overboard defining the plot, but wordless scenes of people yelling and bickering when we don't know what's being said just feel like filler to me. It's as if Toho felt pressure to release a trailer but was so restrictive in the content allowed that it all came through looking hectic and disorganized.

I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control.

From Japanese twitter. Another shot of the Sakai model, I think?

Toho making them do reshoots on just scenes involving people isn't necessarily a bad thing. If they are taking preventative measures against things they don't like about the movie and try to fix them I only see that as a positive. I can't recall any Godzilla movie that had reshoots attached them.

Or I'm wrong and this movie is a complete train wreck.

Obviously if the movie is having production problems the studio/staff won't be so forthcoming about it.

I really dig the general tone they're going for. It's dark and foreboding...conveying a sense of awe and fear. Very cool. The music goes a long way in aiding this. I've liked the new Godzilla design from the beginning, as well. Super creepy and monstrous. Almost demon-esque. I can even get behind Godzilla's bizarre stiffness. His very presence represents a force of destruction. He doesn't necessarily need to be flailing about to demonstrate his power.

What I don't understand is (and granted, this is just going off of a few seconds of footage in that trailer) why Godzilla need to be CG is they're planning on keeping him so still. Couldn't every shot of him in this trailer have been more easily achieved with a well-crafted suit and/or puppet?

If you're going to go CG, then by all means, so something with it that you wouldn't otherwise be able to do achieve with a man-in-suit or other low-tech methods.

New World Cinemas has updated their Facebook with the actual teaser poster for Resurgence and not just a Godzilla stock photo.

My theory: like Joyplex, a similar tiny company with little visibility or online presence who licensed Gamera and Daimajin to Shout Factory and Mill Creek Entertainment, these guys will be the intermediary between Toho and the studio that actually put out Godzilla Resurgence on home video/demand/streaming/whatever.

Final Wars definitely had signs of problems due to information leaks. The staff was blasting Kitamura because he was short changing the SFX staff to the point they had to make suits from older suits. We found out about the harsh language they had to overdub in NYC scene and the fact they made a black guy a pimp leaked out. The three composers they needed and the guy they hired to make a title sequence and all that money that was not properly spent on the movie was all known about before the movie came out. We all knew that movie was going to be a dud months before it's release. It probably helped that Norman England was friends of staff on the movie too. Granted he didn't personally leak information about the movie however I think some of his friends might have. :D

Who knows what is going on with this movie. It might have to do with Anno trying to make something work in live action that works in anime and maybe it didn't translate well so they caught it early. It doesn't sound like they are messing with their vision as much as they noticed something was really off. /speculation

With Final Wars, Toho pretty much let Kitamura do whatever he wanted minus the NYC scene where they forced change.

I'll swear I'm seeing a few shots of a practical head as well as a shot of prop foot smashing a miniature until I'm proven otherwise - and if those are elements they shot but plan to discard for the cohesiveness of purely CG, well, I think they'd be mistaken, as they seem to match up with the animated Godzilla quite well.

August posted what I view as a sort of companion piece and antithesis to the Japan Today article I posted a few pages back. I agree with this write-up more and find that it addresses and finds a solution in the issues. Lets hope Godzilla Resurgence can overcome them as well:

"You could blame mercenary production committees and a paucity of investment in talent behind and in front of the camera, but the root causes run much deeper.

Due to the size and self-sufficiency of Japan’s domestic entertainment market, unique standards developed over decades dictate what is acceptable quality in the fundamental disciplines of screenwriting, acting and direction, and to a lesser degree in terms of postproduction and production values in general."

So any word on if the USA will get this in theaters anytime soon?
I mean we got Godzilla 2000, and film festivals had Godzilla Final Wars.

So interesting tidbit. Shin Goji's figure is going to be 2000 yen. Monster A and B are 1600 and are released AFTER the movie. Hmmm...
