I probably did go too far in saying they're irrelevant to the film. I just threw that idea out there after seeing the post above mine.

HEY GUYS! DID YOU KNOW THERE'S A TRAILER FOR SHIN-GOJIRA?!

Seriously, though, I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. I get giddy. And now we have the debates about whale skeletons, multiple forms, other monsters, etc., it's like 2004 again. Feels good, man.

Now what's with this hulabaloo about Toho boasting about Godzilla being all-CG? It's gotta be some stretching of the truth a little, because I clearly see these shots as practical:

There's no way those shots are CG. Now just about every other shot I can look at again and think "yeah, maybe that's CG." The helicopter firing upon Godzilla, which is my favorite shot, I can definitely see. Makes sense if he's CG in there, since it looked so seamlessly integrated with everything.

But the very first shot, what I thought was a puppet... that's apparently CG? I keep looking at it and I can barely tell. I just thought it was a puppet, but I have other people saying they clearly recognized it as CG. If indeed there are more CG shots than practical in this trailer, then I gotta hand it to them, because they fooled me, and still blew me away. Goes to show what some restraint with the medium will do, instead of whooshy-whooshy 3D bullcrap like the Gamera and Ultraman teasers did.

If that's CG that has amazing texture quality to it. It looks like it's a suit and like something I could actually touch.

Is this real life?

This is the full lobby display. It just looks of pure cheese, but at least we know Godzilla's baby hands are capable of grabbing a building.

I wouldn't put bets on Godzilla's grasping capabilities based on a gimmicky theater display, to be honest.

I was being sarcastic. Poor Godzilla probably can't do much of anything with those arms.

You know, I've been seeing people say "oh, he doesn't look like he'd be able to fight anything with those puny arms!" not thinking that he wouldn't just lean forward and take a bloody bite out of something using the reach of his long neck.

Heck, I think that tail could do all the fighting for him.

For people saying this has to be suit, didn't August say their puppet failed, and had to scrap it all for CG? If that's the case, I think that makes it an even more amazing achievement to fail, and then turn it around to make this. You guys seriously underestimate how much CG has improved.

I'm thinking most of the full body shots are completely CGI (Though I think there's some sort of practical Godzilla for that last shot panning up at him from behind before the title card). There's a practical head seen in closeups, and there's abspositively a prop foot going through miniatures in the beginning.

My take on the Burning Godzilla-esque appearance is that this incarnation may be leaking radiation constantly, regardless of atomic breath or a potential meltdown. That would make sense of the way the trailer implies that Godzilla's mere presence is a threat, even when he's not knocking down buildings. He's presented as this implacable radioactive mountain that only needs to be there to cause devastation.

Regarding CG, the first few times I watched the trailer I was convinced that most shots of Godzilla were a suit, but looking closer on (many) repeat viewings, I feel like he's CG in almost every shot. I think what's fooling our eyes here is that Toho have approached the CG from a different angle. Legendary wanted their Godzilla to be a believable living creature, the most difficult task to accomplish in CG. Toho have instead tried to replicate the look of a monster suit built from synthetic materials, something that rendering engines handle much easier. Additionally, where the brain will always know that the film-makers haven't really filmed a 300ft animal, it's easier to trick us into thinking that we're looking at a man in a latex suit. It's an impressive tactic, really.

Saw this trailer shared on Twitter. It's really something else. The roar at the end is totally savage.

While I doubt Godzilla will be fighting anything other than the military. I wonder if the Monster A and B thing is more like the mutant sea lice from G'84.

Everyone is bagging on the music in the real trailer...and I feel like it's pretty much the only part I actually LIKE.

The music's fine, it's the editing that's garbage.

So, do people who disliked the middle portion of the main trailer focusing on government/military/bureaucracy stuff prefer the 33 second trailer with the balance shifted mostly to Godzilla?

I like the flow of the main trailer: it opens with the headliner, shows off the new Godzilla; then you're treated to the depth and breadth of the cast as well as the idea of showing a realistic response to this fantasy catastrophe; then with the military stuff and scenes of the still peaceful cityscape we're built up to seeing Godzilla again; and the trailer's climax is the military vs. Godzilla. The trailer is like a short film, with a logical flow and story arc.

the only thing i'd change would to be put the spastic roaring head at the end of the trailer instead of the beginning. That way you have the stillness of the rest of the Godzilla shots building an ominous tone, then the spastic head implying that all hell was about to break loose.

I do dig the music, and a lot of the military vehicle shots are wonderfully dynamic.
