Love it.

The stiffness of Godzilla kinda threw me off for a second until I realized it was an aesthetic choice mirroring G '54 and, in a way, Daimajin: he's a bit wraith-like and supernatural in his presence. It'll take some getting used to, but I get the intention behind it. I'm sold on the design itself now. Godzilla looks great, especially the scowl you get viewing him head on. The inner luminescence looks great, and I don't care if folks say it's too Attack on Titan or PacRim. I also like the especially bulbous and luminous tip of his tail, which makes sense if his flesh has been blasted off by an atomic bomb, as the tip of the tail would probably be one of the softest bits of him.

The trailer itself: masterful. It does what a trailer should: get's you very excited about seeing the film while leaving a lot of it still in mystery! If this music is from the film itself then we're looking at a great score. The cast looks great and varied. Honestly, I'm a fan of the lead guy just from watching a few clips of Love and Peace, so I'm excited about him. Tohoscope title card!

And practical effects watch: it's hard to tell where practical, CGI, and compositing begins and ends, but a few shots of Godzilla's head and neck certainly look mostly practical to me. A puppet? That was also clearly a Godzilla foot prop going through a miniature at the beginning, as well.

*edit* I answered my question by reading your post with actual reading comprehension.

Also this picture is cool. I will look at images just no video.

People seem to think it is his longest tail but I'm pretty 89 had the longest... thoughts?

He does look like cooling lava.

I was hoping for a more original take on the roar, but otherwise I basically liked it. It felt a bit oddly edited, but I'll wait until there's a longer trailer released. This one felt more like an extended teaser.

Toho needs to leave Godzilla looking like this. It shows just what nuclear weapons can do and it not only shows Godzilla's vengeance it also shows his need for revenge. Yes Godzilla is a monster that needs to be stop but at the same time you open people's eyes to the fact we made him like this.

Or they can scare people after the first showing and reveal that he was thought to have been killed in 1954.

Edit: There may a blue whale attached to Godzilla's tail. Thank Ultramangoji from Tohokingdom for letting me know.

I'm lazy so I'll just copy and paste what I wrote somewhere else:

The movie could and hopefully will be awesome but yeah the cheap "shot on digital" look is distracting and the puppet is just TOO stiff. The giant puppet they used failed two FX tests and I can see why. It just can't move. It looks like Godzilla is floating more than walking. And if you're going to make a "scary" Godzilla, he can't look like a massive parade float. And yeah, the hand puppet head at the beginning is kind of comical too. All that combined with the rumors of Toho not liking the dailies of the human footage, wanting reshoots and going over the FX budget, and it IS kind of concerning. I'm still staying optimistic though.

And there we have it, our new Godzilla.

I don't hate it. So far. Actually, I like it better than I did up to now. Seeing G move (a little) makes a big difference.

Since all we can tell from the trailer is that Godzilla shows up in a city, fights the JSDF, and a lot of young, attractive people talk about it, all I can comment on is the design and images we see in the trailer.

Design likes:
Head (even the eyes), neck, chest, legs, skin, and FINS. I love that forest of fins, and how they jiggle a bit when he moves.
I like his stiffness, the slow movement, the feeling of immense weight and power. I don't like quick-moving "kibbles & bits" Godzillas, like GINO or Final Wars. Godzilla should NEVER run, EVER. Godzilla is HUGE, and huge things are slow.

Design dislikes:
Tail. Too long, too fat (in some shots), and too light. Filled with helium? It just seems to float everywhere...and that's with a blue whale attached? The power needed to keep 200 meters of tail (and a blue whale) aloft that like that would be immense. Well, he is Godzilla after all, but sheesh...and still, it just seems to lack any weight and just floats. Perhaps they thought since the rest of his body was going to be so static (as far as we see here), they wanted something to be a bit more dynamic...so the tail gets the job. At least it's not quick.
Arms. Too thin, too useless. Perhaps the story will explain, but even then, I'm not liking the look.
Jerky roaring puppet head: Too quick, too jerky, too puppety, and a big difference compared to the deliberate slowness of what we see later. May be a part of the story. Also, that AM radio quality Showa G-roar ain't doing it any favors. I was hoping for a new roar...which we may still get.

Good to see the JSDF was apparently on board with this...plenty of footage of the latest Type 10 MBT, plus Apaches and MLRS systems...should be interesting for military fans.

Can't really say I'm overly excited about this, but my interest is certainly piqued. I'll be there opening day!

It's a horrible trailer.

Shot after pointless shot of actors with blank expressions following awkward scenes of a terrible looking puppet Godzilla. No momentum or pacing at all to make the viewer think, "I've got to see this."

This is a flaming turd coming our way, folks.

So apparently this Godzilla is all CG, according to Toho. Which of true, I can give them props for good CG since I definitely couldn't tell. But that would also mean that having him move the way he's moving is even MORE baffling. So they made a CG Godzilla look like a sh*try puppet?

^I certainly see a practical head in several shots, and there's what appears to be a prop foot smashing through miniatures in one shot.

Anyway, I like the new poster:

Although Godzilla is pretty stiff I think it works. I get a similar vibe from the God Warrior Attacks Tokyo short. Godzilla is this slow moving, almost judgmental, god-like force. Something really alien, especially in those long shots. I think the best way to describe the trailer is "haunting". Wish the hands moved more, but that seems to be the new "feet" issue of this design. According to August many of these shots may not be complete, so... we'll see. I'd certainly believe Toho is using the least complex shots for now, which makes sense.

Really love the way it's shot as well. Don't see all the hub-bub, wah-wah over the digital. Works fine on my end. In fact it actually looks like a movie made by a specific director which is something that can't be said for a lot of the films since the 1990s. And holy cow the amount of cameos and actors in this thing. Nice to see Jun Kunimura show up in a Godzilla movie again. I've enjoy his presence.

Overall I'm on board and highly optimistic. Looking good so far. Solid trailer. Great effects. Fantastic music. Gimme' more.

It's interesting seeing this design for Godzilla in action. I was surprised to see that the red on Godzilla isn't just raw flesh, but it's actually glowing -- very much like Burning Godzilla.

It's an alright teaser, I was honestly hoping for something a little more substantial to be honest. Helium tail is strange, it would look more natural if the tail was in motion and only at certain times lifted high - but it seems like Godzilla's tail is floating for pretty much the whole trailer.

Seen the trailer a few times within the past few hours. I don't know if I want to say that I'm excited. I'm optimistic for sure, but I felt the trailer wasn't very good at all. The only thing that got me somewhat excited was that I got to marvel at how Godzilla looks, and he looks really creepy. The music really bothered me. It was indeed very bland and the mood of it felt all over the place. It wasn't epic and didn't give me that "nightmare" impression at all. I don't want a music video, I want a "normal" preview, one that gives me a chance to feel something.
