I don't know, confirming a Dairanger release isn't too shabby.

We should have figured as much since we knew they only had the streaming rights to the CM library and they recently started that ShoutTV website/Roku app. Oh well maybe they'll see there's enough interest in it to pursue the license for Son and MG74 as well as sublicense the CM library.

Word on the street (i.e. Universal Studio's Q2 report) is that 4K restorations are underway for several of their classic films, including the first five Marx Brothers films (The Cocoanuts, Animal Crackers, Monkey Business, Horse Feathers, and Duck Soup) and all the monster sequels featuring Frankenstein (Son of, Ghost of, Meets the Wolfman, House of Frankenstein, and House of Dracula)!!!

This makes me very happy, especially the Marx Brothers films, as they badly needed to be restored.

I'm now officially disappointed that I broke down this past Halloween and bought Universal's DVDs.

^That movie is my childhood, well, that and the first TMNT movie. Around ages 4 and 5 I'd constantly watch and rewatch them on VHS.

I believe Bluth's other '80s films are already on Blu? Should probably get those...

Attention, attention: with their 3 year license expired, Twilight Time has re-licensed Harryhausen's Mysterious Island for release this December.

Blackhawk Films' Blu of Lon Chaney's Phantom of the Opera, released via Image, has gone out of print - but thankfully, they're doing a new and supposedly improved release with KINO.

And Sony has gone back to catalog releases in a big way. They'll release City of Lost Children later this year.

Probably one of the biggest BR's I would anticipate would be Transformers: The Movie. It's been almost nine years since Sony released their 20th anniversary special edition 2-Disc DVD set. I'm hoping next year (for the films 30th anniversary) S!F will have somehow acquired the rights to release this film on BR as it is one of the few Transformers animated properties they didn't have, at least as of last year. Both Japan and the UK got BR's years ago. I just keep hoping a U.S. company will pick this up so I don't have to import it.

Additionally, I was very much disappointed that last year WB chose to rerelease the Rankin Bass animated classics The Hobbit & Return of the King on standard DVD. Ralph Bakshi's LOTR got a BR release, why not these two films?
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Back when Shout Factory still had forums of their own the topic of Transformers: The Movie would pop up routinely. SF! had tried getting the home video rights for TF:TM but were unable to because the rights to the original animated movie are tied in directly with the rights of the current live action movies. Which means that Paramount currently controls the home video future of TF:TM, and so far Paramount has been unwilling to broker a sub-licensing deal, much less release the animated movie themselves.

It's not a Blu-ray release, but my head about exploded when I recently read that Shout!Factory is giving us both AUTOMAN and MANIMAL on DVD this November!?! AutoMan was a real guilty pleasure of mine, and over the years it seems like a lot folks have forgotten, with some justification, (spin that however you want), about this short-lived series. Manimal on the other hand... well it was sure weird, but that's about all I can remember about the show except for the metamorphosis scenes with his eyebrows pulsing ...and of course that painful shot of the panther claws ripping out of his knuckles. Ouch! I'll wait to get a cheaper used Manimal set, but count me in one Day 1 for my copy of AUTOMAN! Hells yes! Love-love-love that TRON-esque Lamborghini!!!

Status report on WB getting The Thing From Another World on Blu-Ray (via a poster on Blu-ray.com who emailed Warner Home Video): apparently the only 35mm print WB has was the edited reissue version. The excised scenes have been put back in via a 16mm version, at much lower quality. You can spot the difference in quality of those scenes on the DVD or catching it on TCM. WB wants to find new 35mm elements to make the film look great on Blu-Ray, but are having no luck at present.

M.I. on Blu you say?!? Many thanks for the heads-up! That'll be a for-sure order! I've always loved MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and consider it to be one of Ray's top non-Sinbad films.

KINO just licensed one of my all-time favorite swashbucklers, 1940's The Mark of Zorro, from Fox for a Blu-Ray release!

^Yeah, with the Warner Archive becoming a deluge and everyone else being more comfortable with licensing to KINO, Twilight Time, and Criterion it's becoming an expensive hobby to collect classic films on Blu-Ray!
