The VIsit - nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. I mean, I had actually heard middling things, but I'd given up on Shyamalan being capable of making something competent. The movie fumbles in the third act and loses some of its tension, but I more or less enjoyed the watch. Probably not one that would hold up on a re-watch.
The Green Inferno - I'm not sure if Roth is incapable of writing likable characters or unwilling to do so or what...but he's AWFUL at writing characters and dialogue. Once the movie kicks in to where you expect it to go, being a cannibal movie, it's good/entertaining, but the first 40 minutes are painful.
Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse - There are a LOT of jokes, and not all of them work, but much like Zombeavers, this is a movie that delivers COMPLETELY on the promise of every potential joke that is posited throughout the film and is constantly ramping up its insanity. It's probably a slightly better movie than Zombeavers too, in terms of direction and cinematography and effects.
Sinister 2 - This. is. CRAP. After the first movie, you can't do a mystery thing again. We all know where the mystery is headed. They needed to do something different here and mostly didn't. They got too caught up in people raving about the "snuff films" of the first movie and decided to just throw out a ton more of those and hope we'd forget that the movie they're in is garbage.
Hotel Transylvania 2 - I didn't adore the first one. I feel like this is more of the same. It's fine. If it's on TV, I may watch. That's about as far as I'd go.
Everest - I had certain expectations for this movie based on the trailers and cast and most of them were subverted. That's always nice/fun but one major drawback is that every time a person dies, it feels...anti-climactic. There's not enough emotion or reverence devoted to a guy getting so thin on oxygen, he hallucinates and walks off a cliff, or a person freezing to death overnight. These things just kind of happen. If there could have been a little more emotional weight here, it could have been quite good.
Sicario - With the RAVE reviews, I was kind of expecting perfection. I really liked this movie, and it's GOOD, but I don't know if it's GREAT. It lacks...something to make it great. A more likable character who's a little more relatable would be nice. Also, there's a lot of time spent on a character who turns out to kinda be nothing, and I was like "Oh...we spent a lot of time with this character and THAT'S where it went? Dumb." Knocks it down a couple pegs, but still a good movie.
