I almost forgot. Your honest assessment Donut. What do you think of your Buffalo Bills hiring Rex Ryan? I personally think he's almost inheriting the same kind of job. Except this one is in Western New York.

I'm more excited about what it means for the future of the Bills and attracting top-flight prospects than anything else.

I just think it speaks volumes that the consensus top prospect CHOSE Buffalo. I think that says we are a desirable place to come, and that attracts free agents and gets people excited to come be part of your organization.
Pegula's changing the culture. This isn't the Chan Gailey, Dick Jauron, safe pick. This isn't the no-name-nobody who won't cost us money. It's a fundamental change in the attitude of ownership to shoot for, and actually acquire, the top prospect.

Granted, we're ultimately glad not to have had Shanahan, but I remember when he had his choice of anywhere and CHOSE not to go to Buffalo because we suck and are awful...
It's a fundamental change in the culture, front office, and future management of the team, and that excites the hell outta me.

As to Rex not being "What we need" I honestly don't think that's as much a factor as who he brings in to be his staff.
Bill Belichick is a defensive mind, and yet his Ds have traditionally been mediocre supported by godlike offensive play at New England.
Brian Billick was an offensive guru, and yet his offenses in Baltimore were so PUTRID that they ultimately had to give him the boot despite consistently being competitive.
John Harbaugh was a defensive guy coming into a Baltimore team that didn't need defensive help. Consistent playoff appearances and a Super Bowl later, I think Ravens fans are fairly pleased.
Jim Caldwell is an offensive/quarterbacks guy...Stafford arguably REGRESSED this year.
Bill O'Brien supposedly offense and QBs, Chuck Pagano supposedly D, the list goes on...coaches play to the strengths of the teams they coach and the coordinators they bring in, and they generally don't just magically cure whatever ails a team no matter what their supposed area of expertise.

Not to mention DOUG MARRONE. Supposedly an offensive guy, and a quarterbacks coach...womp, womp.

Oh and also, the sheer number of Bills fans that hate it makes me feel like it's an amazing move. We haven't been right about anything we've actually been excited about in so long, that maybe something we hate will turn out to be amazing.
This is the fanbase that loved JP Losman, and CJ Spiller. That justified the hiring of Chan Gailey and ran Marshawn Lynch out of town. We clearly know nothing about football.

BOTTOM LINE
I would have really liked Hue Jackson, personally, but I'm cautiously optimistic about Ryan himself and extremely excited by what I think is a fundamental change in the way the Bills' organization is going to be run.

And through all of that, they still deserved to lose that game. Seems like they played more not lose, than win the game. So many why did the Packers do that questions.

I think the better team lost. The better coached team won.

McCarthy torpedoed his team and Rodgers and the D almost got them the win anyway. On the other side, Wilson imploded on himself like a dying star and Carroll managed to get his team to hang in and win.

I'm rooting for the Seahawks, but I sort of favor the Pats to win ever so slightly. It's a pick em game.

I think the Seahawks win.

I was generally unimpressed with AFC teams this year. Just in terms of the playoffs teams I felt like Denver, Indy, Baltimore and Cincinnati all just kind of limped in, and obviously Pittsburgh was ruined when Bell went down. That really left New England as the only decent team in the AFC. We've seen this story before. New England cruising through an awful AFC only to get beaten by superior NFC competition.

The ONLY reason anybody is picking New England is actually that the most lopsided matchup of the game rests in New England's favor: They have a solid secondary (top 10 in the league) and Seattle's WRs are bad (bottom 5 in the league).

But, Seattle will stop Gronk and therefore New England's offense.

Seattle comfortably: 30-17.

Hope it's my Pats. I think the Seahawks will try to take Gronk out of the game, which will leave things open underneath for Edelman and maybe Amendola. And also maybe allow Blount to get some positive yardage. I do think it will be a close game also.

And the NFL Season ends on one of the dumbest play calls ever.


WTF? I cannot believe what I just saw. Although to be fair Seattle had several chances to put the game away after they went up 24-14 but the play calling got too conservative.

Yeah there was a big goof on that call.
Though to be fair, it was trying to outwit the Goal Line defense (which is usually setup for the run).
Should have tried Lynch one more time THEN the pass if need be.

They also kinda shot themselves in the foot by switching coverage on Grankowski on key plays.

Not to mention the refs were very loose on a BUNCH of holding/pushing off stuff going on the entire game.
That huge fight at the end was great though.
Seattle should have won and they stomped them in retaliation.

BTW if that "deflate-gate" stuff is real, this victory will be extremely tarnished IMO.

Also, man the commercials pretty much SUCKED this year!
The only good ones IMO were the Budweiser dog one, the epic Jeep one, and the Bud Light Pac-Man thing.
The "Tortise & The Hare" one I predicted before the kickoff...
The one that really was BAD was that one with the kid who said he died due to drowning/accident.
Man that was HARSH!

Halftime show was decent, though she should have done the Egyptian thing for "Dark Horse".
Lenny Kravitz should have gone with "I'll Fly Away" or "American Woman".
Missy Elliot was rather random, but OK.

Nice back and forth game, but Russell Wilson made the dumbest pass since a gimpy Brett Favre inadvertently sent the Saints to the Super Bowl. (I'm from Minnesota, it still hurts)

The commercials were more on the depressing side than they should have been, but I laughed hard at the Doritos ad with the nerd and the sexy jogger. And I marked out big time when I saw Walter White.

Katy Perry was overdressed.

There will be hall of famers aside from Brady to come out of the Brady era of the Patriots. Notably on defense. Vince Wilfork is a HOF-caliber NT, and in the early years, the team won on the strengths of its D while Brady RARELY ever put up gaudy statistics.

Troy Brown isn't an ALL-TIME great player, but he was good for a long time and had a solid, lengthy career.
Wes Welker was great until concussions and age starting setting in. Loved the way he played in Miami, always thought the Pats fleeced the Fish on that one.
Gronkowski is possibly an all-time GREAT tight end. In fact, I'd argue that in recent years, Brady's production has been by and large handcuffed to the health of Gronk.

I'm not trying to take away from Brady here, there's essentially no arguing that he's accomplished more than any other QB ever to play the game...but he's also not done it entirely on his own (neither did any of the all-time greats, btw)

If the Bills had any sort of QB, I'd be thrilled about this offseason thus far:
-Rex Ryan is a ballsy move at head coach
-They retained their biggest free agent, Jerry Hughes
-They got one hell of a player in McCoy in exchange for an injured linebacker (who I liked, but oh well)
-They upgraded at OL with Incognito and WR with Harvin with 1-year no-risk deals
-They dumped dead weight Scott Chandler and signed Charles Clay, finally addressing their deplorable TE situation.

If only they had a QB...they'd be lookin' FIERCE right now.
