GMK

The first half of the movie is great. The build up to Godzilla's appearance, his subsequent rampage until he fights Baragon, and everything through the plane attack scene works very well.

Everything after sucks. I mean, flat out, in your face sucks. The characters sans Taizo Tanchibana are boring. Yuri is passable. Everyone else is sleep inducing.

This film also features the worst incarnation of Ghidorah ever. Mothra...is meh. She never felt like Mothra. Godzilla is very menacing and looks great from some angles, but overall I hate his design. It's far too bulky and when he walks it looks like a fat guy running to the bathroom as of he's holding back a turd - his back is arched and it just looks stupid. For some reason, Godzilla is usually in that awkward pose and it just looks weird.

Baragon, on the other hand, is great. The fight between he and Goji is the high point of the movie.

I admit I like the score and some of the cinematography is very well done. The camera angles used demonstrate a great sense of scale for the monsters and the matte shots are mostly good.

But the final battle is lame and boring.

Meh.

It's odd, I used to have a very high opinion of GMK but now it's kinda lackluster despite having some really solid moments.

Fully disagree with you on everything you say about GMK, but whatever.

A Christmas Carol - Alistair Sim - The acting and effects are top notch, but some of the added bits are unnecessary and slow down the pacing a bit during his visit from the Ghost of Xmas Past. I also do not like how they did not have Scrooge run into the charity dudes in this version. Other than that though, this movie is awesome and is by far one of the best adaptations out there. I give it an 8/10.

I also watched GMK, and while I can certainly sympathize with Hybrid's complaints I still think it's one of the stronger and more enjoyable films of the post-Showa era (yeah, damning with faint praise, huh?). It's not as great as Biollante or Godzilla '14, as good as Godzilla '84, it might not be as consistently entertaining as G2K, and it certainly doesn't reach the heights of the Gamera trilogy... but, I mean, it's also a head above a lot of stuff.

I think it ranks with Gamera: The Brave. It's a more ambitious modern kaiju movie that has a few things holding it back from being great.

I like Gamera the Brave. A few tweaks could have made me love it. I think I feel more or less the same about GMK...

so I think I agree with lhb there. Ambitious, for sure, but also falling well-short of the mark it set out to hit.

I like Gamra 2 a lot, but it just can not be compared against the mighty Gamera III. That movie is just amazing in all areas, effects, costumes, and battles.

Our apartment complex was hosting a showing of Mockingjay at a local theater with free popcorn and drinks. As such, we couldn't pass on it and the movie was a tad better than the first time, especially because I already knew about the lack of an ending this time around, but it still did not need to be two parts. I'm going to bump my score up to a 6.5/10.

G3 was the one that left me indifferent. I was like, "Oh. THAT'S what all the hype is about...Hm. Guess I'll re-watch G2 now. Because it's better."

I've changed camps. I never much cared for GIII, but I used to think G2 was the best. But after watching the blurays a couple of times I've realized that I actually like GOTU the best. I think it's one of the best kaiju films made since the 60's actually. G2 is still very awesome and easily one of the best kaiju films of the 90's or later, but I've found in recent years there's just something about GOTU that bests it for me personally.

Godzilla vs. Megaguirus

This is probably the worst looking Godzilla movie ever. The effects, the style, it just looks butt ugly. The story is totally flawed because the characters are singularly focused on trying to kill Godzilla but we have no urge to see Godzilla defeated in the film because his attacks are manageable and he's kind of the hero anyway. It's all kind of pointless.

Still, the fight is fun and Godzilla has a lot of personality even as his battles the most unmanageable puppet and awkward CGI imaginable.

I've seen Tusk.

It's terrible. It's something that MIGHT have been funny as a SNL skit-length thing, but it's padded and tedious, and the humor is almost solely based around "lulz, it's a walrus. Get it?!?!"

A Christmas Carol (1984)

What I really like about this one is the gothic horror style, especially in the Jacob Marley and Ghost of Christmas Future parts.

The Hobbit 2 EE - Great movie even if a good portion of it is not supposed to be there. On the other hand, Legolas never ceases to be Mr Perfect with his character shields set to the max. UGH!! The new scenes are fantastic, especially the one with the Bear dude and crossing a swamp that puts one of the Dwarfs to sleep. Overall, I give it a 7/10.

I want to see the DOS EE, but I'm waiting on the big boxed set, and my library is taking its time getting the EE :(.

Scrooged - A good movie that I enjoy a bit more with each viewing and it is an interesting take on Dickens' story. I give it a 7/10 stars.
