My pile of loot from BBTS arrived today and with that was the Neca G 85.
The package was very cold when I opened it(it was snowing outside), so while I did free 85 from his plastic prison, I let him set for a while before actually posing him. Unfortunately I've learned from experience, *NEVER* take a stone cold Neca figure and try to pose it. You're only asking for problems. I have a legless Predator that can testify to that.
Anyway, initially out of package I was a little underwhelmed by the figure. Head sculpt is fantastic, but everything else felt a little off. My first attempt at a standing pose really brought the flaws to light. The hips felt oversized and the articulation there seemed wrong, the forearms are too thin and long, and, as has been summarily noted many times, the back fins are too small. What really helps fix this is putting the figure into some dynamic poses. It doesn't take much at all to really hide the problems. So much so that its improved my opinion significantly. My first stand-at-attention pose made me groan, but now that I know the figure, its nothing but good poses.
I really wish Neca would use some flat paints for these figures. On the plus side, this figure doesn't suffer from "the shiny" near as much as the 93 does. The head articulation, and really the head in general is just excellent. Overall I'm very happy with the figure. I like this better than the 93, but out of Neca's G entries so far, the 2014 easily takes the cake. Its because of that figure that I'm still able to resist the SHMA.
