MM, I don't really understand how my criticism of a modern toy that's supposed to be a film accurate depiction of a specific Godzilla suit (which this certainly isn't) has ANYTHING to do with stylized children's toys made 45 years ago. I don't particularly like this figure...so you post photos of vintage Minyas? What kind of a comeback is that? Are you really going to sit here on this forum and fling my interest in vintage Godzilla toys back at me like you did at Toho Kingdom?

well with folks talking about the tail on the new 1994 figure being too small for Heisei, I suppose it will be just right when they do the 1956 version. The figure will probably be as good as a MonsterArts Goji given that they know how passionate the G fanbase is about facial looks and sculpts (seeing how it reacted to the chipmunk look that first appeared on G85).

What are you talking about? Usually I defend American DVD/blu-ray releases from those types of criticisms.

MM's response was a whole lot of nonsense, something he did quite a bit at TK before he got banned. If he knew you collected vintage toys, he'd throw them in your face whenever you criticized anything, insulted you for spending money on them and then knocked the figures by calling them "Happy Meal Toys". On TK, that kind of inanity was par for the course, but I never had to deal with that in the 11 years I've been a member here and I sure as hell am not going to deal with that now.

I personally think saying the head on the NECA '94 Godzilla looks a little goofy is a legit critique, because for some reason they gave it a kind of a tapered, pinhead look that's very obvious when seen from the front. For $20, yeah that's not a huge deal because it's still a decent-looking, affordable figure. But as a realistic, screen-accurate depiction of a specific Godzilla suit (which this is clearly trying to be) it misses the mark by quite a bit, especially compared to superior (albeit more expensive) sculpts from the MonsterArts line.

I don't really know anyone who'd argue that the Marusan/Bullmark Minyas are good likenesses, or even attractive-looking toys. But for many people that's not the appeal of vintage vinyls. Sure there are many vintage Godzilla toys that do look really great (Megalon, Mecahgodzilla...) but many people (myself included) collect them for their historical importance, their rarity and the desire to own a product that was actually in production when the classic Showa films were playing in theaters. That's a big part of their appeal, and I hold those toys to a different standard than I do with, say, a modern Bandai vinyl, an X-Plus, a MonsterArts or a NECA.

So countering my criticism of the NECA with a picture of vintage Minya toys and a comment like, "Yeah, because these are awesome, right?" in order to shut me up isn't going to work. Because it's asinine to the highest degree. Just because I collect vintage Godzilla toys doesn't mean my opinion of newer toys is invalid.

Can we keep trash talking of vintage toys to the vintage toy threads? This thread is for trash talking NECA...I mean we certainly have enough to work with without bringing other lines into this

So anyways... I should be getting a 25 inch 2014 NECA Godzilla and a 1994 inch NECA Godzilla in the mail in the next few days. Super stoked. Got them from TRU with free shipping. I had to pay a $5 tax, but that beats the hell out of paying $16 shipping on BBTS.

I have no nostalgia for the vintage toys, but I think they're super cool. They just have a cool style or look to them; that old-fashioned look of solid plastic, a combination of simplification and outrageous embellishment, crazy colors.

I don't have any because they're usually quite pricey
:?

I think, as with all things, it's style: you can't judge two things in completely different styles with the exact same parameters.

Before Trendmasters, I had THIS Godzilla! I had both a 6 inch one, and a big 12 inch one. Best... Toy... EVER!!!!! I was like, 4 years old.

Oh, now I still have my childhood Imperial Godzilla (6 inch). I'm looking at it right now.

It and my Imperial King Kong were the big toys of my childhood. A couple of years later the Trendmasters figures began coming out and I loved those, but they would break and tear after a while. My Imperial Godzilla and Kong are still in good shape!

I remember losing both of them as a kid somewhere. My brother took the arms from my 12 inch Godzilla and that was that. Thankfully, Trendmasters came along and provided me with some good replacements.

I still have both of them, but my 6 inch one is giving everyone the finger as the thumb and two outer fingers broke off his hand years ago.

Received my 94 Neca over the weekend. Pretty satisfied with the purchase. Like others have said, my only real issue with the figure itself is the size of the tail. But it looks great with the rest of my figures. Totally worth the purchase.

I saw a whole stack of the NECA '94 at toys r us yesterday. I was actually quite impressed. They look better in person than in pictures. I decided not to buy one since I already have the MA '94 and I just don't need that many late 90's Godzillas. But I was tempted. For the price it's certainly well worth it. I'm actually looking forward to seeing the '84 in person now. My opinion of it had soured quite a bit, even with the tweaked head, but after seeing this one I'm thinking maybe in person the '84 will look decent too.
