I really have no desire to join, honestly. 'Nother newfangled web thing to keep me glued to my technology all the time (says the guy who didn't get a cell phone until sophomore/junior year of college).

I doubt I'll ever use Spotify again...I don't even really know what it is (half-true, but really, I'll never pay attention to, or use it again, unless a sequel's score gets posted there)

I was hesitent for a long while, but I use it at the office. Its like having itunes digital but with a commercial every so often. I prefer it over digital radio like a pandora. But I digress.

Spotify is free and pretty easy to sign up. It's add supported so you might get a commercial thrown in, but it's basically like Pandora, expect allowing you to listen to specific song.

I actually use Spotify a lot, then again half of my job is sitting at a computer typing stuff sooo...

Any-who, anyone want to take wagers for Rotten Tomatoes score? I'm going to guess it'll be in the upper 70's or lower 80's. Basically everyone who loved Pacific Rim plus a few more. I, of course, hope it gets a 100%, but I'm trying to be realistic.

I don't know what you guys are smoking, but I am hearing a consistent theme. It's that waaah WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH sound. It repeats more than once.

I've heard the music is effective for the movie. I mean, it's no Return of Godzilla but I think it will work fine.

So, I made a Spotify account for nothing because my internet can't stream music... Is there any way to download the tracks or is it streaming only?

I still hold the opinion that the soundtrack sounds like it was inspired by World Of Warcraft. I don't know if Alexandre Desplat has ever done work for WoW, but the similarities are uncanny.

I guess I'll just have to wait for it to be released as this soundtrack, and only this one, won't play at all.

My favorite track may be either or

Yeah, I'm definitely trying to avoid the soundtrack right now and hear it in the context of the film first before I make a judgement. I was afraid it would sound a bit "meh" and I think my fears have been confirmed. Oh well... I can live with an uneven soundtrack, lets hope the film is so good it makes us look over/not notice a lacking soundtrack.

After listening to the whole soundtrack, I love it. Its has loud actiony parts. It has creepy atmospheric parts. There is a clear repetitive theme that I did. Listening to the soundtrack as is, and not mixed with film footage I give it my stamp of approval.

I've heard a lot of negativity, but now that I'm listening to it...I like it. It's not like THE BEST GODZILLA SCORE EVER. But I like a lot of what I hear.

The classic Ifukube theme could have been the "hook."

And then Desplat's generic action music can fill in the rest.

Just like Bond or Rocky, if a character has a great theme, then use it.

Very good soundtrack. I think this will work well in the film. While you can hear influences of Ifukube's music in this score , I don't think Ifukube's music would mesh with this film.

I always hated how they shoehorned his music into GMK and Oshima's scores. Plenty of Godzilla films have done well without it.

I'm just thankful the music isn't the generic Zimmer / Bruckheimer action junk that permeates most films. They let Desplat compose a film score.

I really need several more full listenings of the album to really get into it, but for the most part I like it. Yeah it doesn't have a super obvious theme but I think it'll fit the movie well enough. Like Jor said, it ain't no Return of Godzilla but it is far from being the worst soundtrack to a Godzilla film.

The 60s Ifukube Godzilla themes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "The Godzilla Theme". I absolutely hated hearing that reworking of the Battle In Outer Space march stitched into the 60s Godzilla theme in the Heisei films.

Having heard the soundtrack now, I gotta say I am not a big fan of it. Just sounds so damn generic Hollywood at times, and that Japanese flute really pisses me off.

I guess I'll have to wait and see it in the theaters, but the music is not doing it for me.

And it isn't like I don't like non-Ifukube scores. I loved all of Masaru Sato's scores. The score in Biollante sounded more like a Hollywood soundtrack and I thought it was amazing. Return of Godzilla had great tracks too. And I liked Michiru Oshima's Godzilla scores.

This is just weird. The buildup goes nowhere. :|

Well, I was finally able to listen to the soundtrack... seems whatever was stopping me before magically decided to not interfere. I have to say, I'm not impressed. Aside from a couple of running themes, this soundtrack sounds very slipshod, haphazard and half-hearted. It sounds like it could have been much better. In terms of American Godzilla themes... I think the '98 theme is much more imposing and fitting than Desplat's music. Also, the Japanese flute is so out of place from everything else that it's distracting. In terms of soundtracks, I find this very unremarkable.

If I had to list composers by their memorability and overall quality concerning all prior Godzilla films:
1. Akira Ifukube
2. Masaru Sato
3. Reijiro Koroku
4. Michiru Oshima
5. Takayuki Hattori
6. Kow Otani
7. Riichiro Manabe
8. Koichi Sugiyama
9. David Arnold
10. Alexandre Desplat
11. Kunio Miyauchi
12. Keith Emerson / Daisuke Yano / Nobuhiko Morino

On second thought, the track titled "The Wave" is my favorite.

Also, much like gman, I find it interesting how it's mostly G-fans who are disliking this score. Everyone else seems to like it just fine.
