Klen that's the international dub if I'm not mistaken so it will be on the blu ray.

Oh I didn't buy mine to sell either. If that was how I thought I'd have bought doubles.

Godzilla is one of the few things where I really collect the releases and am not just content with tossing my previous version for an upgrade. I kept my Simitar Monster Zero even after the Classic Media one came out. I'll keep 'em both whenever a Blu comes out.

I also do this for my Miyazaki and Guillermo del Toro movies, and I'll do it for my Marx Bros. movies, too (if anyone ever gets around to actually putting those on Blu-Ray).

I really don't see that happening on that end. I expect the picture quality to be no less detailed than the DVD.

On that debate though, I watched Destoroyah the other day and I do agree that their HD print is crap. It looks too soft and dark, especially when compared with the rest of the Heisei BDs.

The only thing that's "been established" is that both have their ups and downs, and you have to do some serious picture tweaking to get Toho's stuff to look halfway decent.

If we were getting Sony's transfers on these new BDs, then we wouldn't even be having this conversation. There would be no comparison.

The resolution is much higher, and so there is more detail, visible grain and way less artifacts. There were images posted. Toho's HD master is far from perfect but it wins easily. This is really a silly argument. We're talking about two video files, and regardless of how great Sony's masters looked, they were shrunk down to... What? 4.5gb? Next you'll be telling me that Netflix streaming on a Wii beats Blu-ray.

I go with what I see with my own eyes. The Sony DVDs simply have bolder and more pleasing colors that make little details stand out. The Toho masters are clear enough, but they still look like they're caked in something that makes them look so dull.

Have they released any promo shots of the actual releases yet? Is there a chance that color correction will occur or is it a predrawn conclusion that these will be identical to the Japanese releases?

Since Sony's Godzilla vs. Gigan DVD featured a print of the international English version of the film, it lacked the Japanese speech bubbles in the scenes when Godzilla and Anguirus spoke to each other, since the English dub gives them voices instead. The upcoming Section23 release will feature a print of the Japanese theatrical version and so the speech bubbles will be present.

What's funny is that means if you watched the Sony DVD with the Japanese audio, those scenes didn't have any speech bubbles or voices for Godzilla and Anguirus, but if you watch the Section23 release with the English dub, you'll get both the speech bubbles and the voices - a complete reversal!
