Since THE biggest annual televised sporting event was bypassed, I doubt that we'll see Legendary/WB actively looking to hook up their promo train to any other sports stuff. It's certainly possible, yes, but not probable. To me, guys who love sports doesn't equate into guys who love giant monster movies. People who love action films and comics-based audiences are still the much more likely target. "300" is a solid film to link to and very likely since Legendary made it. I'd also expect a full trailer in front of "Captain America 2" in April, with a massive marketing push from then on, which would give 'em six weeks to get people aware and pumped to see it.
Honestly though, I spent most of this past week waiting patiently (for the most part, LOL) for the long-promised trailers to debut on the 7th, then see it changed to the 14th, then the 12th, then no trailer at all, then... etc.,etc.. During this time, I've reflected on exactly how the marketing team should approach what we'll see prior to opening day... and I've more or less reversed my thoughts regarding creature reveals in any of the upcoming trailers. As much as I do want to see more, I'm actually hoping now that we don't really seeing too much more of Godzilla; maybe a face shot of him roaring or a foot smashing down, but nothing like full body reveal. I know now that he's "our" Godzilla, so I can wait. And more importantly now, I absolutely do not want to see ANYTHING of the Mutos. I would much rather be stunned, totally surprised and in awe of their design and "performance" when I'm plopped in my theater seat on May 15th for the sneak preview showing.
