When they startred releasing character figures based on the actors from the '66 TV series recently, I had a hunch (and said my prayers, LOL) that it would only be a matter of time before the show itself eventually made it's way (at long last!) onto home video. I just pray that the folks responsible for putting this together are doing it as a quality, hi-def, remastered Blu-ray release, and NOT just transferring it straight to DVD with whatever materials/prints are readily available. This show deserves a frame-by-frame restoration in full 1080p and a TON of extras. It certainly would be worthwhile since it was originally shot on 35mm. Thank goodness Adam West, Burt Ward, Yvonne Craig and Julie Newmar are still around. I hope they're being asked to contribute interviews, episode-specific commentaries and the like. It sure would have been nice to have had interviews with Burgess Meredith, Frank Gorshin and others. A curse on both FOX and WB for not getting their heads out of their butts and settling all the legal matters years ago! What a shame that this legal junk dragged on and on until, now that everything's settled, many of the cast & crew have passed on. Perhaps they can dig up archive interviews, behind the scenes footage and the like to showcase the creative contributions of those folks no longer with us? They'd also better have a nice, long, in-depth featurette about the creation of the Batmobile - with TONS of behind the scenes construction photos a video tour of the car under, in, and around, plus interviews with George Barris and maybe folks who own or have owned one of the originals over the years! Here's hoping!
Please, please, pretty please do this show justice WB! Give us a truely AWESOME beyond awesome Blu-ray BATMAN release!!! Can't wait to hear more details. It would be cool if the company that restored all of the James Bond films gave the same treatment to Batman. I guess I need to start holding back a piece of each paycheck starting yesterday! LOL. Sure hope the wait isn't too long, but I'd be willing to wait a while longer if it meant giving WB time to produce the best quality set or extra time to assemble the best/most extras and bonus content. The news of Adam West pre-recording commentary for EVERY episode is pretty awesome news. The man was apparently prepared for the worst, in the event that the legal retape might never got untagled before he died. Very foreward thinking of him! Now let's just hope they use the commentaries, or create new ones with Burt and other surviving cast & crew!
I pray that the suits at WB don't get cheap and skimp on this release. It has been the most-requested "lost" series begging for a DVD release since just about forever, with Six Million Dollar Man coming in second. I've had SMDM since it finally came out a few years back and now I'll be able to have most of my entire childhood heroes collection on disc for my viewing pleasure! That's just so flippin' cool. Especially important to keep the memories alive, with the sad news of two of the 70's generation TV personalities passing on the same day. RIP: Russell "The Professor" Johnson and Dave "Reuben Kincaid" Madden.
