Yeah, I can't see how anyone could look at that halo jump sequence and not be impressed.
This is a SOMEWHAT tangential/longwinded way to get to a point, but while I loved Pacific Rim for all its colors, I think this film will have cinematography that will make the colors pop in a different way.
That shot of the red streaks arcing downward as they leave the plane, with the red plastered against that dark grey cloud. That's STUNNING to me visually. Equally stark imagery is that of the lone jumper's flare streak paired up with the enormity of Godzilla.
The colors in this movie are gonna POP because they will be used sparingly. The staging of shots looks absolutely gorgeous and I can INSTANTLY see why the halo jump was chosen as the main lead-in for the trailer. Sh*t looks amazing.
It's the same reason the bat-beat-down was fairly heavily featured in trailers for TDKR, the imagery is crisp and visually engaging.
I liked the Oppenheimer proof-of-concept thing, but to me, nothing in that trailer is as visually engaging as the halo jump. Oppenheimer's speech might be wildly appropos for a Godzilla movie with a serious tone, but I gotta be honest, I saw it a couple times, and then I kept just jumping ahead to the brief shot of the lizard thing/centipede and then Godzilla at the end. This trailer, that halo jump GRABS me right away.
and just to echo what was said above: It's like the main thing everyone is wondering, "Why does anybody think paratrooping a group of six guys into the middle of Godzilla's rampage is a good idea?" There's an important plot point here, and this TEASER is showing that this movie will have a story with that alone. Again, I liked the Oppenheimer teaser, but it gave ZERO hint that the film would have an actual story.
