Gills or no gills, I think LP has gone to great lengths to demonstrate they want to produce a faithful adaptation of Godzilla. That's that important thing.

Well, at least we had two posts there devoid of the word "gills" thanks to me. So, mission accomplished...?

Okay, I know the site isn't really loved, with it's habit of running rumors and fan pics as real-deal, but has some sketches some one made of what the spider thing from the comic-con footage looked like.

Can those who were cat Comic-con confirm or deny if this is anything like the spider creature?

That first one makes it look like a spidery baby Irys. It's an interesting design.

The second one is closer to what was shown, though I told the artist about some subtle changes that needed to be made. The head was not quite as long and the eyes were more oval/alien like....black and the body was more tubular in shape and less spider like with a membrane that was not wings near as I could tell on the back.

Again, my thinking is the creature is a sea creature as well, or at least started out that way. This creature's head was very similar: Image

And this Japanese spider crab's stance was very similar as well:

Blend the two and you're pretty close, plus I think it would be a cool nod to Japan with the spider crab, and in real life it's a genuine monster:

If that ends up being one of them, I hate it. Can't wait for Godzilla to curb stomp it.

Well I think it will be obliterated. It looks like it's point in the story is to Job and show how powerful Godzilla is, after this monster beats up the military.

Booo!!! How dare they use a non-traditional monster in a Godzilla movie! It's too Red! Its legs are too long! Its eyes are too beady! It's pincers aren't big enough!

This unimaginative pile of slop disgusts me!!!

Ok guys, easy there....this is a simple drawing, the creature was more dynamic than what you see and quite frankly the first thing we get to see is just how futile the military is in trying to stop it from destroying the airport.

Now, I do believe that this is just the appetizer because Godzilla towers over it. It would be like the smallest Godzilla fighting Heisei Godzilla, no contest. So IMO, we see a prelude to Godzilla with the military fighting this thing to no real success, and Godzilla appears and not only stops it quickly but causes the military and the world to know that as bad as it is, things just got worse.

Plus, there is another monster looming out there and we should assume that it's going to be much more of a challenge to Godzilla. Perhaps even this creature is the prototype or beta or simply just one of the scientific experiments gone crazy. Doesn't it state in the little bit of plot info that malevolent creatures bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance....so we can safely assume that Godzilla is perhaps awakened because of the threat mankind has unleashed on the world, purposefully or accidentally.

Given that this is a drawing off memory, I dig it. It will be interesting to see how it all comes together.

Looks like The Good Dinosaur is no longer competition for the month of May. Seems Godzilla and X-Men will be the heavy hitters for that month.

I'm wondering if this might be an updated Shockirus from The Return of Godzilla. Both Cloverfield and Pacific Rim had this 'sea louse' concept so its getting to be a staple of the genre at this point.
