Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

I actually had this on DVD at one time, and got rid of it (basically because it didn't fit in my collection), but seeing it again recently, this time with my kids, reminded me how much I miss Tim Burton's early works. Some of the unique animation and sets are just really cool. Of course the highlight was seeing my kids reaction to "Large Marge" my son (7) thought it was hilarious, but it scared my daughter (8) pretty bad. But for her first real "movie scare" I think we handled it pretty well.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I thought parts of Scott Pilgrim worked, but that it didn't really come together as a whole, with the most easily identified problem being the hollowness of Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character, although the natural charisma void of Michael Cera didn't help matters.

After seeing the movie, I started reading the comic, and found the casting of Cera all the more baffling, as he feels so wrong for the character on the page.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Rebirth of Mothra - Pacing is crap. Ghidorah took too long to show up and only really destroys some woods. The "messages" is so heavy handed some one in a coma could get it. "It seems the monster has now taken to the air" Cut to Ghoidorah wingless on the ground getting wings. THE NEWS CASTERS CAN SEE INTO THE FUTURE! Not my cup of tea, but for kid friendly monster fare it works. Now on to the next one.

Since sci-fi japan covered it so much, I decided to give Dino King (aka Speckles the Tarbosuarus) a watch upon finding it was on Netflix. The CG was pretty good. Aside from some roughness during water & action sequences, it was comparable to most "Walking with Dinosaurs" type documentaries. The story however...wow... where do I begin? I guess I shoudl give the writers credit. Although billed as a kids movie, it definitely did not pull any punches. While some elements of The Land before time, and the Lion king were obviously lifted, this film takes the personal loss factor to the ultimate degree. It was so surreal i almost found myself laughing at the concept of how horrible this "Speckles" life had turned out. Sure in the end, they say there's hope, but man, was all the loss really worth it? If you want to see something different, definitely give this film a watch. I can't say I disliked it, but I dont really have any need to see it again.

The World's End- A fantastic film in every regard and easily up there with Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Edgar Wright can do no wrong at this point. I can't recommend it enough.

You're Next- One of the most fun movies I've seen this year. Its a home invasion movie, with the twist that the invaders meet a seemingly unlikely match in one of the victims. A ridiculously inventive film... and its FUNNY. If you like home invasion horror and black comedy, I highly recommend it. The comedy is about as black and mean spirited as it gets, but it had me giggling throughout.

Two great films came out this weekend and I can't recommend either enough.

None of the local theaters are showing The World's End, so I'm probably just going to have to wait until it comes out on DVD. :/

I'm not/can't see World's End without my girlfriend (she'll kill me if I do) so I have to hope she starts feeling better from her chemo before it leaves the theater.
