Caught a midnight screening of Friday the 13th part VII: The New Blood over the weekend. It's a mid0range entry in the series, but a lot of fun to watch with a crowd, and the film's editor was there to introduce it - he talked a lot about why they ended up having to cut almost all of the gore.

There were some cool little details that I'd never caught on the small screen, and the final battle overall is great fun to watch as it was meant to be seen, but a lot of the bad acting (and some noticable ADR work) becomes that much more exaggerated and annoying when amplified.

As of now, there are only three F13 movies that I have not had the chance to see on the big screen: my favorite, part II, and my least favorites, parts VIII and IX.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

I personally really enjoy The New Blood, because it's so different.

Carrie vs. Jason.

Frankenstein's Army on PPV. For a micro budget movie it's not bad. I'm tired of the found footage gimmick though.

Mothra and Jason And The Argonauts presented in 2K DCP at my local-ish Alamo Drafthouse... wow. Let me tell you, the big screen is where films like these are meant to live. When they fill your field of view, Tsuburaya's miniatures don't seem so miniature anymore.

Dredd- This was good, R-rated fun. I thought the tone would be heavier and more depressing, but it was more in line with the Judge Dredd comics I read last year. So the movie's a good adaptation in that sense. By the end, I did find myself wanting more - more about Dredd, about the judges, about Mega-City One. That's not really a bad thing; it just means there's plenty of room to explore the world and title character presented here. Guess we'll see what happens on the sequel front, with all the sudden buzz around it.

Godzilla's Revenge - watched the American cut on Classic Media's DVD. I've never noticed before but the American cut on this disc has some serious quality issues. The main one being an interlacing problem where the fields aren't aligned. It's only noticeable in faster motion but man did it get annoying once I noticed it. It's one of those things that you can't unsee. It's very much like the issues people were talking about with the Ultra Seven discs, but not as bad as those appeared to be.

The annoying thing though is that, from my understanding, interlacing issues shouldn't even exist when watching on a progressive scan setup unless the manufacturer "hard encoded" (don't know if that's the proper term) the disc in an interlaced format. Basically it looks like classic media forcibly locked the disc into being interlaced so your player and tv can't properly display it in progressive scan, which should eliminate this issue. I know I'm probably not explaining it well but the bottom line is the disc is locked in an obsolete formatting that it really shouldn't have been, even at the time of release. I remember their GRA disc had a similar issue, which was corrected with later pressings.

For what it's worth I did check the Japanese version as well and it seems fine. It looks a LOT better in terms of encoding and compression and, of course, interlacing.

There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Justice League Flashpoint Paradox - Holy crap, that was a lot more violent than any other DCAU DTV. I'd say this and the Dark Knight Returns movies shouldn't be in the "Family" section of Best Buy. Great voice cast, as usual, dipping into some of the old favorites (Kevin Conroy, Nathan Fillion). I've never read much of the comics so I don't know how faithful of an adaptaion of this was of the specific arc, but I enjoyed it.

On a side note the upcoming, Justice League War (apparently it's an adaptaion of the new 52 JL), look fantasically fun as well.
