What have I watched recently? Ah...

Woman of the Year: a great old Tracy and Hepburn romantic comedy (more of a dramedy). Almost excellent, but the re-filmed, studio-mandated, lighthearted comedy ending really fumbles the ball.

Horse Feathers: I think home video technology was invented so we can watch the Marx Brothers whenever we want.

Forbidden Planet: This has to be one of the coolest looking and sounding movies ever made. Really makes you wish that they made more glossy, huge budget sci-fi films in the '50s, but then again, the specialness of Forbidden Planet is a big part of the mystique.

Superman Unbound - I don't care, I unabashedly love these DTVs. John Noble as Brainiac is great!

The Campaign - Has some good laughs but not constant enough, also might be a bit too true to actual political campaigns (aside from the happy ending)

Pegasus vs Chimera - Oh god. You got the head mobster from Boondock Saints as some evil emperor, who's army consist of like a dozen people at most. A pegasus who only has wings when it flies, and gets armor with out explanation (but only on the top half making the armor quite useless). I saw a sale sticker on the bottom of a booze bottle (I'm sure they were just going to return it after the scene to keep the budget down). And there's only one beach in the entire kingdom. I loved every horrid minute.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture - I still really like this film, and nothing can change that : D

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - I liked this one a little bit more on this viewing. I can't say why exactly, but I did.

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock - I liked this one a little less. I think it just came off a lot clumsier. The katra thing kind of irks me. Not only because it ruins the great death in Wrath of Khan, but because it seems far too fantastic to really fit in a Star Trek film easily.

Beast From Hollow Mountain- Finally got to see this. I know it will be on TCM at the end of june, but I found a very inexpensive DVD, so I figured what the heck...This film just had an overall depressing feel to it, especially when the poor kids drunkard of a dad tries to "clean" himself up only to become a victim of the Dinosaur...but it was pretty much a known outcome. The animation was odd. Obviously knowing the convoluted circumstances behind this film, I dont know how much (if any) of this was O'Brien's work (the credits actually say "Based on an idea from Willis O'Brien"). But it seems a notch or two below King Kong, and seeing as how people usually get better, not worse, at their craft I dont think he actually did any of the animation. Especially odd was the snakelike tongue the T-Rex had. It made my wife actually laugh at one point whwereas I was disturbed more than anything else. I'm glad I have the film, but it probably isn't someting I will watch too often unless I'm comparing it with the superior film "Valley of Gwangi".
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

The Not so Great Gasby

Wow, 11 months of waiting for this movie and it being one of the only three movies I have been looking forward to all year, and it is nothing more than a pile of steaming crap. The movie itself has an interesting story, interesting and good characters, great acting, but it is all a giant mess. First off, the editing is atrocious. It was like it was put together by people with ADD who could not handle the camera being in one place for more than 3 seconds before they jumped to another camera shot to another shot. This went on for the first 45 minutes or so and it really got on my nerves. However, the biggest attrocity is its score, which has been put together by the uninspiring Jay Z. WHO THE FLYING HELL BOATS THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO LET A FRIGGIN RAPPER PUT RAP MUSIC IN A MOVIE THAT TAKES PLACE IN THE 1920'S!!!!!!!!!!! The movie doesn't even make you wait more than maybe three minutes before cramming Jay Z's noise making garbage into the movie and then spreads it throughout the entire movie. It completely pulls you out of the enjoyment of the movie and is ultimately where the movie falls. There is a scene where musicians are playing Jazz instruments, but guess what you hear instead of Jazz? GANGSTA "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" RAP!!! The dancers are dancing like they are in a rap video. None of this belongs here and it is NOT welcomed. Do not waste you time on this piss poor movie for it is an insult to literature on the highest level. Fitzgerald is so lucky to not be alive to see what has happened to his novel for his ears would be bleeding until he died from blood loss. Even Stephanie Meyer looks pale in comparison to this insult, which is saying a lot. If you want to see something more entertaining, watch a dog poop. At least you won't have to hear Jay Z while it does. Hell, my ears have not been so insulted with music in a movie since 2010's Jonah Hex. Overall, I give this movie a 1/5 and it is all because of the score.
