I am not a huge fan of the new ongoing series and have also been very critical of it. Nevertheless, despite all it's faults, it is still better than KOM, there are no huge plot holes, the politically correct garbage has been toned down considerably (with the exception of that lame, eye roll-inducing gay wedding/woman priest scene in issue#1), not to mention that the artwork as a whole is far better than KOM (especially Santos' scribblings). I think KOM's sales were more popular due to a variety of factors, such as the huge publicity blitz with issue #1 and the insane amount of different covers for it, the high publicity of Powell's involvement, and the fact that it was Godzilla's first appearance in a comic since the Dark Horse days, and finally, the fact that it would be the first ever appearance of his TOHO foes in a Western comic. As that series progressed and reality started to set in on what a complete trainwreck the KOM series' was, the sales, while remaining steady in the beginning, quickly began to drop dramatically by the time KOM #12 rolled around. The whole plot line of the current ongoing does indeed get bogged down and has issues...but it least it *HAS* a plot that can get bogged down. It took *forever* to get going though (it didn't get interested until around #6) and while issue #9 was somewhat disappointing, it still is better than anything in KOM. And unlike KOM, it actually has me interested/curious as to what is going to happen next, with potentially a huge payoff with the earth monsters battling the space monsters down the road. I never got that sense from KOM, and in the end, there was no payoff at all and it ended with a thud.
The lower sales of IDW's post-KOM comics are definitely not because of KOM's "quality" (*chuckle* :lmfao: KOM and "quality" being mentioned in the same sentence), as sales for all of the minis (G&G, GLegends, and GHCW) are also significantly less than KOM, and one could argue that each of those series are the best Western G comics ever seen. Nevertheless, these lower sales still remain very respectable and stable. As I said, nobody blasted IDW more harshly for their handling of the Godzilla franchise than I did during KOM...but since then, IDW has seemed turned the corner and are putting a much better product overall. Powell's involvement has been replaced in favor people who seem to actually like Godzilla beyond just being a casual fan, so I think the future for Godzilla comics looks bright...but I agree, they still have to get their sh*t together on their ongoing series...not sure why can't keep their ongoing series on par with their fantastic mini-series...
