That's one of the things that irritates and turns me away from the millennium series. The continuity didn't need to be forced on us, but they didn't need to re-tell his story over and over again either.

Godzilla 2000 may have been the last Godzilla movie that I saw on the movie screen. He was back after that rotten movie of 1998. He was what Godzilla should be. He was tough and hard to kill. That second monster may have been tough, but Godzilla is tougher. Even his flame breath has change color. It used to be blue, but was orange in this movie. I just wish that the 1998 movie was as good as Godzilla 2000. :(

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

What's the general consensus on this film? Fandom-wide I mean?

I think it's a bit more than nostalgia. It's not a great film, but it just feels more entertaining than most post-Showa films. It carries that Saturday afternoon monster-movie-on-the-TV feel far better than several other, duller films that will remain nameless.
