now i really get the feeling that i need to re-watch Forever, as I might have said it's my second-favorite of the 80s/90s run.

I've never been all that fond of Returns.

For a Few Dollars More

"The Man With No Name is back! The Man in Black is waiting..."

Can you imagine being a movie fan in '67 and seeing that tagline on the poster?! Awesome.

Anyway, the Dollars films are about escalation: everyone involved in production learns from the previous film, become more confident and skilled, and then take it to the next level with the next film. This film is like the last but bigger, with bigger battles, bigger characters, bigger set pieces, bigger music, ect. The operatic tone begins to really get in, with cowboys and shootouts being treated with grand, mythological significance.

And it's great. I love Lee Van Cleef's Cpt. Mortimer, it's almost a shame that his performance as Angel Eyes in the next film so overshadows this one. Almost. The best is yet to come, of course.

Manhattan Melodrama

My William Powell and Myrna Loy box set I got for my birthday! (still making my way through all my DVDs and Blu-Rays I've acquired since late last year which have just piled up unwatched) This is Powell and Loy's first screen pairing, and it includes Clark Gable as well. All and all it's a rather hokey melodrama, but the great actors manage to sell it and make it enjoyable.

This is Spinal Tap

I've not seen it in at least a decade, and a friend of mine just got it recently at a used DVD store, to play in the "mancave" (his wife wouldn't be into it :? )

Still as brilliant and bitingly funny as ever, loaded with details that are still fresh and hard to pick up after multiple viewings. The 79 minutes (almost the length of the actual film! :o ) of deleted footage are equally as brilliant, with some amazing scenes and subplots that didn't make the final cut (Nigel's replacement, David's son, more of Jeanine trying to control everything - including David - to disastrous results  )

The hell of it is to get everything that exists on this movie, it seems that you need to get the Criterion version as well as the MGM special edition DVD.

I hear there's a 5 hour work print out there somewhere.....

The Dark Knight Rises: Awesome, though it kinda has a "to be continued?" vibe...

The theater I saw it in is one of those "dine in" theaters (got a pass from a random employee of the theater at work). Only problem was that when I called on the phone it did not mention that seating was kinda "arranged".
Basically the earlier you buy the tickets, the better seat you get. Since I showed up about 20 minutes early (like a normal theater) I had to sit in the 2nd row. Thus had to tilt my head so I could see. Plus the service from the wait staff was a bit lacking. They had a button to push if you needed something. I ordered popcorn before the movie started, but did not get it until at least 20-30 minutes into the movie, plus it was not "hot buttered popcorn" but "cool buttered popcorn". I guess I will stick with normal theaters from now on (unless it's the assigned seat kind like iPic).
Plus the way they designed the way in & out of the theater might be dangerous. Since there is a bar right in the lobby, it's very crowded with people just standing right in the middle of the entranceway.

Ted pretty enjoyable and funny though definitely made for the people who grew up in the eighties. I've heard it described as one of those movies that can't be defined due to it's outlandish premise, but I'd say the premise is the old standby of a guy who can't commit to his relationship with his girlfriend due to his best friend being in the way all the time style of comedy. I liked how they dealt with how society would react to a teddy bear coming to life. The Flash Gordon stuff was really funny and makes me want to see Flash Gordon again. I'd say it's worth a rent or checking it out from the library when it's released to home video.
