Musashi is indeed long and slow in pace, but it's a very immersive reading experience. It really gets you caring about the characters and what the circumstances mean for them. And, of course, Yoshikawa is brilliant when it comes to action. Taiko is very much cut from the same cloth, telling the story of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of the key figures responsible for the unification of Japan after years of civil strife.
