"The Girl Who Waited". Wow. Great stuff. The acting was brillant and choked me up a bit towards the end. Very well written.
My favorite episode of the season so far.

It was great to both see the Doctor a) fail a bit, and b) not look like such a hero. But why am I talking about the Doctor? The two companions (and the actors that played them) were the ones who shined!

Dialogue was amazing in Night Terrors but the rest of the episode just felt meh.

God Complex was an amazing episode too and I love the little Easter Eggs it had through out the episode.

"The God Complex" was interesting but by the end of the episode it kinda seemed like watching a rerun.

It was nice to see the Nimon mentioned...

But the Doctor breaking Amy's faith in him to save her was just like when the Doctor broke Ace's faith in him to save her in The Curse of Fenric. Overall, this episode reminded me quite a bit of TCoF.

The Doctor's reaction to the whole thing, was very much like what happened at the end of Season 4 with Donna -- the whole "woe is me, I'm a death magnet" thing. It's too soon to be covering that terriorty again.

I'm interested to see/hear what was in the Doctors room in that episode; it'll probably be explored next series.

Since the Doctor wasn't really surprised by what he saw the first thing that came to mind was that he saw himself.

The first thing that came to mind was the Valeyard. But we're ways off from the Valeyard's splintering off sometime between the Doctor's thirteenth and final regenerations. It seems that the Valeyard splintering off from the Doctor is something the Doctor would be very concerned about, particularly as he nears his thirteenth regeneration and thus the Valeyard's earliest possible genesis.

The Valeyard appeared throughout Trial of a Time Lord. And I believe some fans speculated that the Dream Lord from Amy's Choice might also be the Valeyard, a first appearance in the characters personal timeline so to speak.

And now for a couple of my own ideas concerning the Valeyard in the new series...

Personally, the new series incarnation of the Master (a different character from the Valeyard) has always bugged me. Largely because he doesn't really act like the Master, and then there's the whole laser screwdriver bit.

It occured to me the other day that if the new show's team wanted to, they could ret-con the current appearances of the new series Master as the Valeyard. And explain the nu-Master's odd, for the Master anyways, behavior as the character having only recently split from the Doctor and experiencing an identity crisis. I have a good reason for why the identity crisis but I'll save it for the end.

Professor Yana was a cocoon of sorts, intended to allow the Valeyard's consciousness time to gestate or stabilize as an independant entity. But that cocoon period is interrupted when Martha Jones encourages Yana to open his watch, thus the Valeyard's confusion. The Valeyard knows he was originally part of the Doctor but also that he's a villain like the Master and the Valeyard's mind latches onto memories of both Time Lords for stability and creates a false identity. The Valeyard only thinks he is the Master at this point, with a personality that is hallmarked by a desire to be like the Doctor but better, in his opinion, hence things like the Laser Screwdriver.

"But what about that whole bit about the Time Lords resurrecting the Master to use him as an ultimate soldier," you may ask. That still happens, the Time Lords do resurrect the real Master in attempt to use him, but the Master has always been a wily opponent and had a plan of his own, just in case.

By this point the Master had long known who the Valeyard was, and at some point after ToaTL he learns when the Valeyard first splinters from the Doctor. Knowing when the Valeyard would be at his most vulnerable, the Master captures the Valeyard and substitues the Valeyard for himself in the Time Lords' plan. The Master creates the conditions that cause the Valeyard to think himself the Master and allows the Time Lord's plan to continue on.

The Master, with no special allegiance to the Time Lord leadership, takes off on his own and any future appearances of the character can now fall in line with the cunning and calculating genius that Roger Delgado originated.

So I introduced one of my friends to the series several weeks ago and we just finished Season 3. You should have seen his face when Jack revealed himself as the Face of Bo. It was priceless.

Anyway, is there a release date for the full season set yet? I've decided to hold off on watching it while it is airing since my friend has yet to see every episode, and since I have yet to watch the Specials or Season 5 on BD (only on tv), I figured it is the perfect time to watch everything before the BD of Season 6 comes out.

I was thinking that the Doctor that gets killed was a doppelgänger made out of the Flesh ("The Rebel Flesh", "The Almost People"). I figure the swap of not-Doctor for the real Doctor happens accidentally, I don't see the Doctor purposefully sending a being to die in his place, perhaps the switch happens during Rebel Flesh & Almost People -- difficult to say exactly when.

The Flesh-Doctor thinks he's the genuine article and has carried on as such, it's all very much like the Voyager episode "Course: Oblivion" where living metal duplicates of the Voyager Crew traveled through the Delta Quadrant doing the same sort of things the real Voyager crew did.

No idea where the real Doctor could be, perhaps he's been on 22nd century Earth trying to jury-rig a means back to the TARDIS.

Yeah, the Ganger solution seems the most likely, but I also like that idea of the little people in the robot.

I'm going to go ahead and guess it will be neither of these likely scenarios though and shall be something out of left field. They already have a whole 3rd season with Matt Smith to explain more Lost-style randomness.

What's weird is when I thought of the little people thing, I forgot about the Gangers.

I need to rewatch some eps.

Series 6 finale was decent, it could have been better but still was pretty good.

Nice to see more references to pre Matt Smith Doctor Who.

Count me in as another who liked the finale.

SPOILER: Those who guessed that the Tesselector would be the Deus Ex Machina of the episode get a gold star.
