That's the one thing in the movie that genuinely bugged me. If they left out that sunlight business the whole end of the movie wouldn't have been so annoying to me. You can't say one thing, then base your entire final action sequence on the opposite.

I'm having a hard time understanding people picking this thing apart... To me this was a modern version of a low budget 50's B-grade scifi movie (like THEM! or something). With that in mind, this movie totally delivered. Of COURSE it's going to have plot holes, wonky logic, and some bad dialogue! And, for me, that makes it even MORE like a 50's b movie, which makes it better!

This movie was awesome. Screw you guys, I'm going home![/end Cartman]

That's exactly what I mean. Not every freakin' angle or statement needs an explanation. People make false statements in real life to, ya know. Some would argue why a script would not follow through on some things said and done in a film but, in reality, that happens on a daily basis in a persons life from the time they're born 'till the time that they die. There are a million things a person may start but never finish.

THEM! is infinitely better than this movie... your argument is actually making me like this movie less in retrospect...

I'm not trying to use the "of course it's bad" as an excuse for the quality. I'm saying that this film feels like a low budget genre film that doesn't have the time or resources to be perfectly polished and so I can forgive (and, yes, even enjoy at times) the things that aren't perfectly executed (just like I do with the old genre films that clearly inspired this).

Granted, I don't really know how low the budget was, or how rushed production might have been, but the fact that it FEELS like that type of movie is enough for me to forgive its flaws. And I'm more willing to forgive those flaws (just like the old 50's movies) b/c this movie is still lots of fun & doesn't get all pretentious trying to be higher brow than it really is (just like most of those 50's movies). It's cheap thrills. I knew that going in & got the entertainment I was hoping for. And I'd argue that it was pretty well done cheap thrills...

As a side note, I used THEM! for my example b/c the insect-like aliens living in the desert reminded me of it. But if THEM! is on too high of a pedestal to be dragged down to this level :P , you could replace it with any other low budget 50's scifi movie that you can admit isn't exactly "great cinema" but you still enjoy plenty.

The budget was much higher than it deserved to be for this movie. I don't care if a film has trouble on the way to the theater, what we judge is whats on the screen. I mean, teachers don't grade papers on the points and research you wanted to make but couldn't.

Also, comparing it with any other low budget 50's scifi movie that I can admit isn't exactly "great cinema" but I still enjoy plenty implies that I enjoy Cowboys vs. Aliens plenty. :P
