John Lennon: The Life by Philip Norman.

Massive autobiography -- 200 pages in and Pest Best is still in the band.

Hitler's War by Harry Turtledove

What if... Chamberlain had stood up to Hitler and World War II started a year earlier?

In 1968, the Soviets lost a ballistic missile sub, 3 miles deep in the waters of the western Pacific. They didn't know where ... but the US did, secretly raising a portion of it six years later with the Glomar Explorer.

Fascinating stuff, you can also see the dvd segments on youtube.

Still at the beach, now re-reading Slaughterhouse-Five by Saint Kurt the Vonnegut.

Having a nice time, in spite of the all-too-evident side effects of the gulf oil spill around us that gag-orders and self interest prevent the locals from saying too much about. Thousands of dead fish wash up every day.

Re-reading The Dark Tower.

Read books 1 & 2 last week and halfway through book 3.

Book 2 still stands as my least favorite of the series. So much so, that I remember beginning The Wastelands for the very first time back in 2004 and thinking "If this isn't better than The Drawing of the Three, I'm probably done with this series."

, by Greg Olson, a 700 page (!!) biography of David Lynch and examination of his work. A little overwrought sometimes, but very enjoyable. There are a few good books out there of his art or dissections of his movies.
