[quote="kidnicky"]How many G movies are good? Not good because of nolstalgia,or good because you like the suits,or good because you like to laugh at the “cheeky pigâ€

Haven't seen this mentioned yet here between the other...um...discussion, but it seems . According to Bobby Curnow at the IDW Forums, it's rare that a comic not published by either Marvel or DC to break into the Top 20, so I think that's a MASSIVE win for the fandom regardless of whether or not people like/dislike the comic itself.

Here's to hoping Godzilla and co. can stay in the Top 20 for a long long time!

EDIT: I just looked at the list, and I'm even more impressed. Godzilla #1 is the only third-party comic in the Top 40! O_O The next non-Marvel/DC comic on the chart is Image Comics' The Walking Dead #83, which placed at #42, and the next highest-ranked IDW comic was True Blood Tainted Love #2, which ranked at #131. Wow! O_O

I think the whole "sold out" boast is very misleading. Godzilla had a record 101 variant covers (plus the original cover which brings the total to 102), and I think that had alot to do with the inflated sales numbers. If a comic shop ordered 500+ copies they would get a special variant cover featuring Godzilla's foot crushing their comic shop.
You can see all the variant covers here
http://www.comics.org/series/56846/covers/
This caused alot of shops to overorder the title which is what is padding the sales numbers. (All so they can get that special variant featuring their own shops).

Now do you honestly think those shops are going to sell 500 plus copies of Godzilla #1? I don't think so. I know a couple of guys who own comic shops here in the greater Toronto area and they sold 5 and 10 copies respectavly. Those shops that ordered 500 plus copies will be using those comics in the near future to line bird cages.

^ To have either you and/or your comic shop immortalized as a comic book cover.

The guys who own 4 Color Fantasies have not only themselves, but their shop featured on a comic cover.

The guy who owns Keiths Comic Shop gets to be immortalized (along with his shop) on a published comic.

etc. etc.
You'll be surprised what people will do to see their name or picture (even a drawing of them) get published.

The best way to gauge how well this series actually sells is to see how issue #2 sells. Issue #2 will have regular covers and not these "I can have my comic shop and myself on an IDW comic" incentive type covers that caused stores to order 500 plus copies. Then we'll get a true feeling how many of these books are actually being sold to consumers rather than inflated shop sales from the publisher to the stores for personalized covers.
