The motion capture would be a great extra on the dvd for this film. I imagine they will build some miniture sets like TOHO for the m-c actor to tear through. A split screen of the m-c actor and Godzilla destroying their respective cardboard and cgi cityscapes would be amazing to watch.

i'm not a big fan of all the "Godzilla doesn't move like a T-rex" arguments.

I have to wonder: if the original Gojira crew were to take a crack at Godzilla for the first time ever TODAY what would he look like?
I keep thinking he'd look and move more like a real dinosaur.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they wanted Godzilla to be fairly realistic in that sense, they were just working off of paleontological data that was wrong.

Well, it's fine if he walks like a T-Rex, as long as he's capable of doing the things we know and love. He needs to be able to grab things and grapple with kaiju and he tends to do this in a more humanoid way than saurian.

I don't really think Godzilla should move like a T-Rex, he's obviously not really a dinosaur. The largest predatory dinosaur ever unearthed, to the best of my knowledge, was either Gigonotosaurs or Spinosaurs, either one of which could have been easily stepped on by Godzilla.

What I'm more focused on is a fluidity of his movement, more natural to what a living creature could do then having to worry about moving around all the bulky rubber. Godzilla should stand upright, maybe only a little lean forward, and he should keep his hands up, not bent over t-rex style like Gino.

Even if that WERE a good idea (I don't think it is at all), Toho would never allow it, to the best of my knowledge. From my point of view, they're in a much stronger position to veto anything they don't like than they were back during the Tristar shenanigans and in talking with Matt Frank about his work for IDW's comic, they're apparently ridiculously strict with how Godzilla is supposed to be depicted, right down to the relative sharpness of his claws.

My problem with that upright GINO (and really any upright, dino-esque Godzilla) is mainly the theropod foot. It looks fine as a design but how does he walk? That pic from G-Fest that's a few pages back solved the problem quite nicely, I think.

And I like the quick moving Godzilla of the late 1960's/1970's as much as anyone. But when I think of Godzilla, it's the ponderously moving behemoth who takes all the firepower the military can dish out and yet still just keeps coming at you slowly, ominously.
