Didn't Criterion have plans to release the "UPA Five" on laserdisc in the 90's?

Given how Criterion's "Seven Samurai" Blu-Ray crushes Toho's own Blu-ray of the same film in the image quality category, a Criterion "Gojira" would be a sight to see, if Criterion did their own transfer.






More Criterion "Seven Samurai" caps, to really show what kind of quality can be pulled from a 1954 Toho film on Blu-Ray:
