How many times does it have to be mentioned that Monsters had a lack of monster action due to being made for less than half a million dollars and that Edwards made it to get his foot in the door to make bigger movies?

And as far as people NOT wanting a lot of human drama goes, I can't help but disagree. Yeah, Godzilla should have enough cool stuff to do in it, but if its an utter bore when he's not on screen (ie solider/military type characters standing around watching the action in a room), I'm gonna be tuned out. Good character drama and character story is a must. What would the original Godzilla 54 have been without its compelling human drama (which is plentiful and outweighs the monster action)? If Edwards had the budget to balance the drama with more monster stuff, he would have.

Human drama in G54 or in any Heisei movie (except SpaceG) is acceptable and is enough. But if director make film that has more human drama than scenes with or around Godzilla, the movie for me will be the same "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" as G98

Think Godzilla Vs Biollante and Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah had the best human drama in the Heisei series. GvKG is awesome because of how batshit crazy it was.

Anyone who says the human drama in Monster Zero is bad (and uses that opinion to support the human drama in the Heisei series) must be smoking some seriously bad granola.

The human drama (if you could call it that) in the Heisei series is outright abysmal compared to most of the Showa series, which has far better actors, screenwriting and directors than any of the Heisei films.

it would be nice to hear the line you stinking rats but it all depends on what Mr Edwards plans to do with the big guy.

Why does everyone have to lump all the non-kaiju scenes in to a box called "human-drama?" Some people act like there are two movies here. As I recall each Godzilla film is one entity. I never saw "Monster Zero the Human Drama" followed by "Monster Zero the Kaiju Scenes." Actually, I saw one great movie. Everything has to come together in order to work. I think this fear of having too much "human drama," or a lack of Godzilla is ridiculous.

How much "monster action" was there, really, in Jaws? Hell, how much "monster action" was there in G'54? Or in both instances was most of the tension and excitement caused by, gasp, "human drama"?

As stated previously by Gman2887, each Godzilla film is being treated as two separate films mixed together. But that's not the case. Monster action and human drama aren't mutually exclusive parts but each aspects of a single whole.

I will say this however – With good human drama, you don't need a lot of monster action. The tension and tone will accomplish everything you need. With good monster action, and the human drama as a disposable sideshow, the whole picture falls. Ideally you have both, but I'd argue that human drama does more to make or break a picture than monster action.

As much as I disagree with him, I think smagal might be right with DESTROY ALL MONSTERS though, it sags in the middle.

First movies with Godzilla that I saw were movies from 80s and 90s so for me they are the best and that's the way the human drama (yeah, scenes with humans) should be shown in giant monster movies
