[quote="mr.negativity"]From Collider:

[quote]His next movie will be The Wolverine, but when a journalist asked him whether he would like to remake Frankenstein or Godzilla one day, Aronofsky asked the laughing audience, “Why is that so funny? That’s all I ever wanted to do – remake Godzilla.â€

I know it was just playful banter, but if Aronofsky got the reigns to this, I would weep with joy.

I can tell you ALOT of directors in Hollywood would love to do a Godzilla film. Some have even said so in public, however, getting all worked up over hearing someone say they would like to do it is wasting your time.

Godzilla is just one of those inspirational characters, much like King Kong or Frankenstein so naturally he has alot of love in Hollywood, but it has alot more to do with that such as scheduling and dollar amounts. So if Legendary decides to put out the dough for a good director (and they have in the past many times) then we will get someone who will do the fil justice. If not, we will get another Dean Devilin.

Guillermo del Toro spoke on Joblo.com's latest podcast and said he is not involved with Legendary's Godzilla remake, but he does love Godzilla "as what it is".

This reminds me, on the Criterion release of Guillermo del Toro's Cronos, there's a feature where he shows around his home office. He's got some Godzilla merch around his place, including a pretty big and bad ass Mothra Larva figure.

^I wasn't obsessing, just giving one of many possible interpretations of what is a pretty vague (and probably unimportant) statement.
