My copy arrived from Amazon today, two days ahead of schedule! :D Gonna skim through both films before heading off to work, and then watch them both later tonight.

I got mine in the mail today, and I watched GOTU tonight. I'm no professional video critic, but I honestly think the quality is fantastic. The video is excellent, and the audio great as well (although, as stated in at least one review, lacks a lot of subwoofer action). As also stated, one drawback is the onscreen text in general is not translated (credits, newspapers, etc.). I can only confirm the GOTU title screen, and a lot of the location texts on G2 are subbed (I skimmed through G2 to assess the quality).

I remember someone mentioned there were no menus for chapters and setup. The main screen offers just a selection to go to either film. However, when the film is playing, just put the pop menu button to bring up a nicely done menu at access any of the 15 chapters, and it shows the audio options. Alternately, when the film ends it goes to the main menu, but with the setup/chapter options showing instead.

The subtitles, as mentioned, are a tad higher than most would prefer, but are very clear and legible.

Between the price and the quality of this thing, I FULLY recommend it. Can't wait to see what they do with Gamera 3.

Some HDTVs still have overscan, so the subtitle position may be taking that into account. Better to have them too high on some TVs, than to have them cut off on others.

Has anyone tested whether this disc works on a region B player yet? Blu-ray.com still isn't saying one way or another, and the shot I've seen of the back of the box shows a DVD number code instead of a BD lettered one, so I don't know how reliable that is :?

It's really nothing to worry about. I was just acknowledging that it's not a perfect bluray & that there is something for extreme nitpickers to nitpick if they really want to.

But it is a HUGE step up from the ADV discs and, really, quite a nice presentation. I can't imagine anyone being anything other than quite pleased with this disc. Especially for the price. I've seen much more mainstream, more expensive blurays not look as good as this.

I only noticed a few shots of grain here and there and for the most part the films looked fantastic though a little dated.
