-The Social Network- A great script and excellent performances, with an awesome score by Trent Reznor. The story is a BIT dull in places, but this is a very good film. Even Justin Timberlake is alright in this movie. Fincher makes up for the sappy, bloated Benjamin Button. Its hard to believe how something that has changed culture and the way we live the way Facebook has, started as an idea someone had to compare women to farm animals after drunkenly blogging private information about his ex-girlfriend... and MAN, that Facebook guy is a douche. But he's also the youngest billionaire in the world, so he doesn't care what I think.

-The Crimson Cult- A (supposed/uncredited) adaptation of HP Lovecraft's Dreams In The Witch House- Stars Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, Barbara Steele, and Michael Gough. A pretty decent witchcraft/cult flick. Unavailable on DVD, but on Netflix streaming.

-The Burbs- Joe Dante is one of the ones who can get comedy and horror mixed perfectly. This is another example.

-Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog- hilarious

-Catholic Ghoulgirls- This is one of the worst things I've ever seen.

-Tetsuo: The Iron Man- Its not for everyone, but I love this movie. Its like The Fly and Eraserhead had a cyborg baby. Awesome industrial soundtrack also. I love Shinya Tsukamoto's films (I actually don't think this is his best like a lot of people do, but its still good).

-Electric Dragon 80.000 V- Japanese cult film pioneer Sogo Ishii's film about a "reptile detective" (as in he looks for missing reptiles and lizards) who conducts electricity and plays really loud noise rock on his guitar. He has to fight a villain who is a master of magnetism and its awesome. Reminded me of a Tuskamoto film mixed with Scott Pilgrim. Great stuff and made an awesome cyberpunk double feature with Tetsuo.

Now that its Halloween time, its time to start watching old school horror. The Roger Corman Poe films are all on Netflix streaming and I have a hefty amount of Hammer Horror DVR'd from TCM. So that's what I'll be watching all month (probably throw in some Universal DVDs as well!).

Oct 1 - Various Hammer Dracula films, The Mist (color, i had to compare to my recent watching of the B&W version....black & white all the way!!)
Oct 2 - John Carpenter's The Thing, Simpsons Treehouse I
Oct 3 - An American Werewolf in London, A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
Oct 4 - Pumpkinhead
Oct 5 - Monsters, John Carpenter's Dark Star
Oct 6 - Predator, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Martin
Oct 7 - The Lost Boys, Simpsons Treehouse II episodes
Oct 8 - Simpsons Treehouse 3-8, Cujo
Oct 9 - The Stuff (this might TECHNICALLY have been on the 9th, but since I hadn't gone to bed yet, I'll count it as the 8th, also, it was oddly super-appropriate as I was, at the time, eating a cinnamon roll covered in sticky, white delicious frosting gloop...like "the stuff")
Oct 10 - The Fly
Oct 11 - Cloverfield
Oct 12 (today) - Critters (ive seen this movie about a dozen times and every time I find myself going "oh man, Billy Zane is in this!")

seriously, the closest thing to a movie that I didn't like thus far was Cujo. It's gotten a bit dated, the story is weak-sauce compared to the book, and it's kinda easy to see that the dog wasn't really a snarler and was just covered in lots of fake blood and mud...it's still alright, but better with the lights off late at night and I watched it mid-day...

Soooo many good Halloween films that I try to watch every year as tradition that I need to watch:
Monster Squad, Halloween, Trick 'r Treat (a new tradition), Creepshow, The Howling, The Omen, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Exorcist, The Shining, Alien (i only caught part of this on TV the other day), The Great Pumpkin

and some movies that I just want to check out (or check out for a second time):
Pontypool, Rosemary's Baby, Onibaba, Prophecy, Planet Terror, Teeth, The Fog, In the Mouth of Madness, From Beyond, Freaks, Rabid, etc, etc, etc...

I just watched Rabid

it was good, so don't get me wrong, but once upon a time, someone on here (i forget who and where) said something like "28 Days Later is overrated and owes a LOT to Rabid"

bah, I say. BAH!

28 Days Later is AWESOME, for one thing, and for another, I saw more parallels with Quarantine and [rec] and Cronenberg's own Shivers.

In fact, that would be my one of my few actual COMPLAINTS about this movie. It feels a little bit redundant when compared to Shivers. Also, it flirts with "come for the horror, stay for the boobs."

I did really like a lot of stuff though, it's interesting to see the collapse of society into martial law but through the eyes of just a select group of people. It's also an interesting take on a vampire-like situation.

Very good, but I wouldn't go around knocking 28 Days Later to prop up this film...
