North by Northwest - First time seeing it. Not Hitchcock's best, but definately a solid thriller/spy movie. Cary Grant really is a fantastic actor.

Oh, & for anyone who asks, "how much better can an old movie look on bluray?", check this one out! My goodness! It was like watching a brand new 35mm print in my living room. It was one of the best looking blurays I've ever seen. There's some decent comparisons over on avsforum for those interested.

Beware the Moon- The new documentary on the An American Werewolf in London BD. It's pretty well done documentary would have been nice if it where in HD but alas didn't hinder the viewing. If you pick up the BD of this film or the DVD reissue then do check it out.

Sisters of Satan

Convent girls get possessed by demons. Really, really icky -- I've never seen nudity and lesbianism be so unsexy.

I just recently watched Captain's Courageous (1937) and The Prisoner of Zenda (1937). Both are fantastic movies -- Hollywood seems to have a hard time making films of this calibre anymore.

I recently watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It was pretty good. My friend kept bugging me and bugging me to watch it and I finally did and enjoyed it.

I also recently Netflixed Galaxy Of Terror and The House Of The Devil. Galaxy was a fun b-movie from Mr. Roger Corman. The plot got convoluted and silly, but the gore and death scenes made it worth it, as well as seeing Robert England, Grace Zabriski and Sid Haig, who's character only uttered the unforgettably silly line "I live and I die by the crystals!" House was a throwback to old school horror films. While it was quite slow I still really enjoyed it. The first half basically focused on a young college girl who is struggling to get enough money to make a down payment on renting out a nice place (owned by Dee Wallace). She eventually takes a babysitting job that's not what it turns out to be.

And last night I Netflixed Don't Look Up and I couldn't return that pile of crap fast enough! I hated every minute of it! Some director with alleged psychic powers goes to Transylvania to shoot a film about an old gyspy legend. He encounters actors with really awful Transylvanian accents, a swarm of hokey CGI bugs, really lame lines spoken by the equally bad actors... oh, and some type of entity that's killing off his crew members. This film was complete trash!

Godzilla 1985-I'm in love with this movie, haha. I wish I had the Japanese Version.

Godzilla vs. Biollante-brought back a lot of old memories! Love this movie!

Deep Blue Sea
I was just re-watching this film recently and (surprise, surprise) I still love it. LL Cool J (Preacher) was my favorite, but all the actors and actresses are fun to watch. I love the premise and how it sets itself apart from the stock and standard shark movie. It's a frightening situation - trapped in a sinking facility with super-smart man-eating sharks hunting you. There are some great one-liners here ("you ate my bird"; "did someone order the fish"). It's got flaws and there are some great leaps in logic (why didn't Susan just hold her hand above the water?), but I honestly didn't care. I was enjoying myself far too much to pay attention. Admittedly, the CGI scenes of the sharks attacking their prey can be pretty bad, but most of the shark effects are well-done. The movie's paced pretty decently and there's rarely a dull moment. Fun movie is fun.

It's no Jaws but face it - there will probably never be a shark movie that good in a real long time.

So my advice to you: if you ever find yourself at home on a Saturday night put this film on, get some popcorn, and enjoy a decent action thriller featuring plenty of deaths.

3.5/5

District 9

Fun, creative movie, and the thing I enjoyed most was Sharlto Copeley's transformation from nebbish to renegade.
