I'm not holding out any hope. To me Buck Rogers is what Dick Calkins drew for the newspapers. It's as distinctive of a style as Raymond's for Flash Gordon. When I think of these properties I think of them in a retro almost steampunk sort of way. A part of what made them cool was those fantasy art deco design aesthetics.
Even though played for camp, the De Laurentiis Flash Gordon did a great job capturing some of that style, which unfortunately was undercut by being a stupid movie. I liked it, but it's still stupid.
Though not having my crystal ball or time machine handy today, I doubt they will go for it and make it with that type of flavor. I just hope that somebody somewhere learned something from the abysmal SciFi Channel Flash Gordon series.
The Buck Rogers is at least shaping up to be what I'd hope for. Hope being an important part of the expectation. Kinda funny seeing Gil Gerard and Erin Grey as Buck's parents.
